PURPOSE OF POSITION

Under the direction of the Patient Access Manager this employee is responsible for promoting a caring and compassionate environment that allows Lake Charles Memorial Hospital to provide an individualized experience to our patients. This employee is devoted to promoting excellent patient and provider relations that encourage a lasting connection. This position directs and coordinates the responsibilities of the Patient Access Department all the while maintaining a positive demeanor and coaching employees and helping them grow in their positions. This employee strives to cultivate a positive environment for our team and our customers.

SUPERVISION: Reports directly to the Patient Access Manager

Description Of Position/Responsibilities And Duties

  • Completes Quality Reviews on all direct reports in a timely and accurate fashion.
  • Provides training in all roles of Patient Access. This includes writing procedures and providing on-going daily support after initial training.
  • Monitors registrations, screenings and insurance verification for accuracy, appropriate action steps, and productivity expectations.
  • Develops, implements and maintains compliance with standardized patient registration protocols for efficient patient processing systems that minimizes wait time and ensure accurate and timely completion of patient records.
  • Ensures that accurate and complete demographic and insurance data is collected to support decreasing accounts receivable days and bad debt write-offs.
  • Responsible for completing various reports related to Registration, Financial Screening, and Held Claims.
  • Work with other departments to maintain efficient work flows, timely registrations, and adherence to financial screening and collections.
  • Holds monthly department meetings with staff to discuss issues, changes, improvements, etc. Holds staff accountable to attend.
  • Monitor patient payments that are collected at the time of registration.
  • Leads staff by example and attempts to maintain department morale by being fair and informative.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Manager.

Education And Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree and two years’ experience in healthcare or related field
  • Alternatively, at least 6 years or equivalent work in healthcare related field
  • Being a Certified Medicaid Representative is highly preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
  • Ability to utilize multiple databases and hospital specific software.
  • Requires emotional stability and resilience.
  • Ability to communicate professionally.

  • Requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to deal with stressful situations and conflict resolution.
