The Employment Specialist will work with both employers and participants to connect youth ages 18-24 with justice involvement to opportunities in the workforce. The Employment Specialist will develop work-based learning and training opportunities for participants and employers and ensure employer’s needs are met.

This position is based in an office setting at the Goodwill Home Office, with regular travel to locations in Rockford, Belvidere, Freeport, and partner sites. The environment is typically climate-controlled, though temperature may vary. Noise levels are generally moderate, consistent with an office environment. The role involves a mix of desk work, meetings, and on-site visits. Standard work hours are daytime, with occasional evening or weekend commitments to support programs, meetings, or community events. Reliable transportation and the ability to travel between sites are required.
Compensation: $22 - $24.50/hour

Employer Engagement and Job Development
- Establish relationships and maintain close contact with area employers for job development and placement opportunities.
- Create and monitor contracts for work-based learning with area employers.
- Stay current with community employment needs, trends, and related skills required for employment.
- Assist participants in finding and maintaining employment in relevant industries.
- Counsel and provide on-going case management to program participants who are enrolled in work-based learning programs.
- Make appropriate resource referrals, provide follow-up services, and track outcomes.
- Become familiar with policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure compliance.
- Maintain confidentiality and protect customers’ personal Identifying Information (PII) as required by law.
- Maintain participant files in compliance with program requirements and guidelines.
- Shows flexibility in working with youth with varying abilities, experiences, and backgrounds.
- Show flexibility and tolerance in working with individuals from diverse social, economic and educational backgrounds.
Qualifications & Basic Job Requirements:
- A combination of education and relevant work experience that aligns with the duties of this position.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and high attention to detail.
- High customer service focus.
- Requires occasional local travel within Goodwill’s territory on a regular schedule. Driver’s license and proof of auto insurance required.
