The Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority (OMMA) is seeking a full-time Content Strategist. This is a state position governed by the Civil Service Rules, in state government located in Oklahoma City, OK.  OMMA offers a comprehensive benefits packet, including a generous benefit allowance to offset the cost of insurance premiums for employees and their eligible dependents. The annual salary for this position is up to $80,000 based on education and experience.

Position Summary

The Content Strategist is responsible for planning, creating and delivering accurate and engaging communications for the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority (OMMA). This role oversees social media management, develops and drafts newsletter content, responds to urgent developments and ensures consistent messaging across all platforms. The strategist will collaborate with the Communications Director and internal teams to translate complex medical, legal and regulatory information into clear and accessible content for diverse audiences.

Position Responsibilities /Essential Functions

  • Develops and executes a comprehensive content strategy aligned with agency goals, priorities and compliance requirements.
  • Drafts, edits and manages newsletters for patients, commercial licensees, law makers and other audiences as needed.
  • Maintains an editorial calendar for planned communications while adapting for urgent updates and breaking developments.
  • Oversees OMMA social media accounts, including content creation, scheduling, posting and community management. Presents monthly content performance reports.
  • Monitors engagement metrics and adjusts strategy to maximize reach and clarity.
  • Drafts timely messages for urgent agency updates, health advisories or legislative updates.
  • Ensures all content meets accessibility standards and adheres to state guidelines.
  • Supports public education initiatives, campaigns and outreach events with appropriate communication materials. Maintains and updates content compliance checklists for all agency publications.
  • Establishes content approval workflows.
  • Coordinates and facilitates regular content review meetings to ensure timely evaluation, feedback and alignment across teams.
  • Collects, analyzes and reports content metrics, including social media engagement, public inquires and campaign reach.
  • Maintains a repository of approved content, templates and guidelines for staff use.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education And Experience

Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a bachelor's degree in journalism, communication, marketing, English or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience in writing and editing, radio and/or television, public relations or serving as a public information officer.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference may be given to candidates who possess:

  • 2+ years of professional media/journalism experience

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include advanced knowledge of English usage, including grammar and composition; of public relations principles and techniques; of accepted styles for materials released to various media; of media sources and their capabilities; of visual graphics and video techniques; of agency's objectives; and of editing techniques and procedures. Ability is required to write and edit; to gather and organize pertinent data; to uphold and practice public relations principles and codes of ethics; to deliver informational presentations; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Work is typically performed in an office setting with climate-controlled settings and exposure to moderate noise levels. While performing the duties of the job, employee is required to talk, stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. This position requires long periods of sitting and daily use of computer and phone.
