JOB SUMMARY

This position reports to, and works closely with, the Library Director in overseeing the operations of the library. This is an ideal position and opportunity for someone with previous success in a supervisory position or an experienced librarian in the public library space.

As Branch Manager 3, you will oversee day-to-day operations of the library, providing exceptional library services while ensuring policies and procedures are implemented effectively and efficiently. You will encourage staff contributions and personal professional development while fostering a diverse, equitable, inclusive, and accessible work environment. The Branch Manager 3 will lead a team of library professionals who are committed to creating a thriving library in the heart of their community as they support and build a strong partnership with library patrons and their local community partners, ensuring the library is a welcoming space for all, which reflects community priorities.

Employment Type: Full-Time, Exempt

Annual Salary: $70,000

Primary Responsibilites

An individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily.

  • Oversee daily library operations and public services, including scheduling and workflows.
  • Assist the Library Director with implementation of the library’s strategic goals, policies, and procedures.
  • Supervise, coach, and evaluate library staff; support efficient, impactful operations and a positive workplace culture.
  • Participate in recruitment and training of new employees; support development and growth of all staff and promote continuous learning.
  • Serve as backup to the Library Director, ensuring continuity of operations in their absence.
  • Oversee management of library collections, including merchandizing, selection, evaluation, and maintenance.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate library programs, services, events, and outreach initiatives.
  • Source, write, and administer grants to support library programs and services.
  • Clearly communicate organizational priorities and initiatives to staff, ensuring understanding and alignment.
  • Hold effective staff meetings and one-on-one check ins to share information.
  • Provide timely updates to the Director on library operations, community feedback, and emerging issues.
  • Support and guide staff in responding to patrons, modeling excellent customer service and resolving escalated issues when necessary.
  • Collect, analyze and interpret data to identify trends, measure outcomes, and inform strategic decision-making.
  • Prepare reports on outputs and community impact for a variety of audiences.
  • Work public service desks as needed to assist with patron services.
  • Evaluate library operations regularly to drive improvements and enhance effectiveness.
  • Demonstrate adaptability in a changing work environment while maintaining efficiency.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with community partners; collaborate with partners to create relevant, high interest programs and services.
  • Ensure compliance with library policies, privacy regulations, and safety procedures.
  • Know, understand, and administer the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read Statement, and Freedom to View Statement, recognizing that freedom of access is a fundamental tenet of a public library; in addition to these freedoms, support client discretion of materials available at your local library.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS

An individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed and meet the amount of education, training and/or work experience required.

  • ALA-accredited Master of Library Science or Master of Library and Information Science degree
  • Two years of public library experience
  • At least one-year supervisory experience preferred
  • Accommodate a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit for long periods of time and to maintain focus on projects such as computer screens or detailed paperwork.
  • Occasionally lifting of items weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds such as files, books, and other materials.
