Adaptive Aquatics Instructor (PT)
Recreation Department – Aquatics Division
Salary: $20.00/hourly
Join our aquatics team at the beautiful Evelyn Kirrane Aquatics Center in Brookline, featuring three pools and year-round programming in athletics, health, wellness, and camp activities. The Town of Brookline is seeking a part-time Adaptive Aquatics Instructor to provide individualized and small-group swim instruction for participants with disabilities in a fun, safe, and supportive environment. Weekly hours are scheduled based on participant enrollment. Work takes place primarily at the pool, but programs may occasionally be held outdoors or in the community.
Responsibilities
Experience working with individuals with disabilities is preferred, particularly in aquatics or recreation settings. The ideal candidate is able to adapt teaching approaches to meet the age, experience, and ability of participants, and demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication skills when engaging with participants, parents, and caregivers.

Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one and small group adaptive swim instruction for individuals with physical, sensory, developmental, neurological, or other health challenges.
- Ensure participant safety and recognize/respond to emergencies as needed.
- Develop inclusive lesson plans in collaboration with the Therapeutic Recreation department.
- Adapt teaching approaches to meet participants’ age, experience, and abilities.
- Communicate regularly with participants, parents, and caregivers regarding progress.
- Maintain accurate attendance, lesson plans, and progress reports.

Additional Requirements
- Current Certification in American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (preferred) and/or experience teaching progressive level group swim lessons.
- Current Certification in Swim Whispers (preferred) and/or experience teaching progressive level group swim lessons for individuals with disabilities
