JOB DESCRIPTION:
Under limited supervision in the City’s Planning and Development Services Division, assists the Long-
Range Planning Manager with the City’s activities relating to Comprehensive Planning, the Capital
Improvement Program, transportation projects, Floodplain Management, and various long-range plans.
Provides customer service; participates in internal development review meetings; conducts research;
and assists with the development, amendment, and implementation of the City’s Comprehensive Plan
and Land Development Code in coordination with local and state regulations and requirements. Assists
the Division in achieving the City’s goals and objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Urban Planning,
- Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Engineering, Public Administration, or related field and three (3) years progressively responsible experience in planning, zoning, and/or land use, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- One (1) year of experience interpreting Florida Statutes preferred.
- Master’s degree, AICP certification, and/or Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) certifications preferred.
- Requires a valid Florida driver license.
EXAMPLES OF TASKS:
- Performs senior level, professional planning work to produce long range plans; conducts research and provides analysis; interprets statutes and administrative rules; drafts ordinances; edits and revises the Comprehensive Plan, City Center Plan, Special Area Plan, Capital Improvements Program, and other documents.
- Develops programs and projects to further the City’s CRA Economic Development objectives.
- Assists with the coordination of City, County, and regional land use and transportation planning.
