Requirements
- Active Maryland LPN or RN license
- CPR Certification
- At least 1-2 years of clinical experience
- Experience working in an outpatient medical office
- Experience working in pediatrics, family medicine or urgent care required
- Experience with triage a plus
- Experience triaging patients on the phone
- This position is responsible for providing patient centered telephone advice and care coordination with patient education utilizing guidelines approved by the medical staff.
- The Registered Nurse position is a multifunctional role that includes triage telephone duties and direct patient care duties.
- This position will primarily be on triage but will be cross trained to provide direct patient care.
- The candidate must be interested in training and retraining staff.
- The Telephone Triage role serves as the point of contact for incoming calls, which includes screening, documenting and prioritizing calls; transferring messages appropriately to and from patients/providers; and providing pertinent information to patients. These duties include, but are not limited to:
- Answering calls “live” coming into the telephone triage nurse line from THH patients and families.
- Ascertaining reason for call and quickly escalating to the physician when appropriate.
- Scheduling appointments according to the patient’s needs.
- Monitoring Triage nurse voice mailbox, retrieving information and entering data into electronic medical record.
- Ensuring documentation of incoming calls is complete and accurate to ensure timely call-back by nurses.
- Performing routine filing and faxing of documents; updating and distributing information on physician on-call schedules.
- Be accountable for direct and indirect quality patient-centered care according to individual needs
- Follow the nursing process in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act
- Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to consistently provide care appropriate to the age of the patient, including pediatric, adolescents and their parents or guardian
- Use of Barton Schmitt protocols
- Accept professional development as an integral part of the nursing practice
- Coordinate patient care with other members of the health care team
- The Registered Nurse provides nursing care to patients in the primary care pediatrics practices as directed by providers. The position is responsible for patient flow and assisting providers as necessary with examination, procedures and administration of immunizations that are adapted to the patient’s developmental stage. These duties include, but are not limited to:
- Performing patient assessments.
- Performing and documenting patient intake (height, weight, head circumference, blood pressure, vision and hearing screening, reason for visit, chief complaint).
- Assisting providers with procedures including, but not limited to suture removal, sterile procedures, wound care, venipuncture and catheterizations.
- Performing phlebotomy, via capillary techniques, to obtain blood specimens. Transcribing, collecting, labeling and arranging transport for lab specimens. Performing back office laboratory tests.
- Administering immunizations, oral and/or injectable medications. Administering PPD and interpreting results.
- Ordering and stocking appropriate inventory of medical-surgical supplies for lab and exam rooms.
- Providing age- and developmentally appropriate care to infants, children, adolescents and adults.
- Monitoring patient flow, including preparing patients and rooms for physicals and sick visits.
- 8 providers
- 1:1 ratio between providers and MAs, LPNs, RNs
- Each provider sees between 20-25 patients/day
- Not assigned to one provider, will rotate/work with them all
