Job Summary

The Maintenance Assistant will perform general maintenance and repairs for assigned equipment and facilities including plumbing, electrical, basic carpentry, heating and cooling, and other building systems. The Maintenance Assistant will be required to assist a lead technician in performing preventive maintenance of building facilities that include minor plumbing, preventive maintenance of HVAC equipment, minor electrical repairs, small welding repairs to building structures and facilities both indoor and outdoor. This person will be required to assemble pallet racking systems and operate forklift and scissor lifts and work in heights.

Job Responsibility

  • Inspect and identify machinery or equipment in need of repair.
  • Inspects and tests machinery and equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions.
  • Troubleshoots issues to determine necessary repairs.
  • Performs general repairs that do not require a specialized technician. Examples may include repairing drywall, painting, and repairing doors and other building fixtures.
  • Performs routine maintenance on building systems.
  • Convert light fixture from ballast system to LED bulb system.
  • Assemble, install, and repair plumbing valves, drains and new fixtures.
  • Paints and repair woodwork, trim cabinets and walls to offices and hallways.
  • Arrange, assemble and adjust office furniture, cubicles and desks.
  • Run cabling and data wires and lines through building for Data and video equipment.
  • Install television screens and monitors on walls in facilities.
  • Install and relocate pallet racking system and components in warehouse buildings.
  • Fabricate and install building systems to facilitate logistic procedures.
  • Wax and buff floors as necessary and use floor buffer equipment.
  • Cleans and assists with upkeep of the facilities.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


Requirements

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of general carpentry and repair.
  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools.
  • Knowledge and ability to use testing equipment to the appropriate job functions.
  • Knowledge of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods.
  • Communicate effectively with others in writing and talking to others to effectively convey information.
  • Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to come up with logical answers.
  • Ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.
  • Ability to follow instructions from supervisor and lead mechanic and work well with others.
  • Effective math and reading skills.
  • Ability to work unsupervised.


Education And Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent; 6 months experience in a maintenance-related field or a combination of education and experience.


Schedule Requirements

  • Ability to maintain a 96% (rolling 13-week) attendance average.
  • Work is performed full-time, M-F during standard working hours.
  • Expected to perform work functions at the office 5 days per week.
  • Must be able to work overtime and weekends as required.


Physical/Work Environment Requirements

  • Must have the ability to lift 45 lbs. using proper lifting techniques and stand and walk for long periods of time and work at heights above 35 feet on lift equipment.
  • Must have the ability to use hands and arms for handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating objects.
  • Excellent balance and body awareness are necessary to move safely on ladders.
  • Must have the ability to work in hot and cold environments for extended periods of time and use proper personal protective equipment.
