Roles and Responsibilities: The Risk Manager leads operations of our risk and safety initiatives. This role provides oversight of safety and risk related to all programs and across seasons. The Risk Manager evaluates risk and determines mitigations to maintain a healthy and safe customer experience. The Risk Manager lives out our core values, summarized by love God, love each other and don’t waste fun (safely).
Key Duties
The Risk Manager is responsible for working to identify and assess risk, then implementing prevention and control strategies to reduce major risks. Key duties involved with high-risk activities include coordination, training, audits, operations, facilities and equipment inspections. Specific high-risk areas include boating, pools and water activities, ropes, vehicles, abuse prevention, emergency response, and security. The role requires detail assessment, critical thinking and assertive follow-through on initiatives. The applicant must represent Christ and His gospel, having fun safely, be willing to talk to people about safety, and willing to be trained and train others on best practices.
This role is best suited to a high agency individual eager to shape our risk culture. The ideal candidate is someone who loves the mission of T Bar M, has experience with camps and retreats, is familiar with the high-risk areas above, and willing/eager to learn risk management processes
Identify, analyze and plan controls for major risks
Pursue compliance with all state and federal laws ensuring the organization's risk management policies and strategies are in compliance with applicable regulations
Spiritual Growth and Alignment
The compensation range for this position is CCG’s Grade 4 – Manager’s tier in our compensation structure and is eligible for T Bar M Camps & Retreats’ competitive insurance and benefits package.

Identify, analyze and plan controls for major risks
- Maintain a major risk register to evaluate risks and recommend controls
- Oversee and actively manage identified risks/exposures in line with operational priorities
- Recommend the continued improvement and/or development of appropriate safety controls and ensure thorough and timely resolution of issues
- Stay up to date with industry trends and attend risk workshops as beneficial
- Become a subject matter expert on key risks and/or ensure someone on staff is the expert
- Ensure planned protections/controls are documented in staff policies and summer staff playbook
- Support training and be willing to lead training where qualified
- Support efficient processes to ensure training sign offs are documented
- Oversee and do periodic inspections and audits
- Engage with staff and correct unsafe actions on the spot
- Support root cause and corrective action investigations
- Support incident reporting.
- Speak into the strategic risk management vision considering T Bar M’s programs and industry standards, as well as what is unique to our operations, objectives, initiatives, and strategy
- Ensure strategic priorities are carried out annually based on budget, customer experience, industry learnings and recorded incidents
- Manage budget in accordance with annual strategic risk plan
- Review of new capital projects and activities evaluating new risks and updating documentation
- Perform annual incident analysis and provide suggestions for improvement
- Oversee relationship and coordination of security personnel (primarily summers)
- Ensure emergency response plans are in place for organization wide crisis management, such as fire, storm/flood, intruder, missing camper, active shooter
- Review the framework and methodology for each emergency response, as well as coordinating the training, communication, and testing
- Collaboration with local first responders
Pursue compliance with all state and federal laws ensuring the organization's risk management policies and strategies are in compliance with applicable regulations

- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 2 years of experience in camping or comparable work history with proven effectiveness
- Able to coordinate across teams and influence others who do not directly report to you, and/or are more senior in the organization. Seriously, you’ll need a backbone to communicate issues to anyone in the organization or on our property regardless of their role. This role is neither for the timid or the challenger, but for the analytical and question asker with an even temperament.

- Maintain current Challenge Course certifications (including climbing up to 50 ft and able to keep up with physical demand of job)

- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.
- This position works both indoors and outdoors in extreme temperatures.
- Must be willing to work some evenings and weekends as business needs require.
