Description

The North America Reliability and Maintenance Engineering (NA RME) strategy team is seeking a Business Intelligence Engineer who will play a crucial role in driving data-informed decision making while developing skills for future technical program management opportunities. In this role, you will analyze and deliver insights across our complete operational landscape - from workforce effectiveness metrics and employee relations trends to site performance analytics. You'll build solutions that help us understand the connections between our people data, maintenance execution, and operational outcomes across our network of robotics-enabled fulfillment centers, sortation centers, and last-mile delivery stations. This comprehensive view of our business provides a unique opportunity to develop both technical and strategic leadership capabilities.

Key job responsibilities

Near-Term Focus (Business Intelligence)

  • Design and maintain scalable reporting and analytical systems that support RME strategic initiatives
  • Develop comprehensive data visualizations and dashboards using tools like Tableau/QuickSight
  • Write and optimize complex SQL queries to analyze large datasets across the RME network
  • Build and maintain data models that support strategic decision-making
  • Partner with stakeholders to translate business questions into analytical frameworks
  • Create automated reporting solutions for operational metrics and KPIs

Growth Path (Technical Program Management)

  • Gradually take on ownership of strategic programs and initiatives
  • Support development of long-term strategic and annual operating plans
  • Begin managing cross-functional projects with Finance, RME-Field Leadership, and Operations teams
  • Develop skills in program management, timeline development, and cross-team coordination
  • Learn to identify organizational needs and translate them into technical solutions

A day in the life

Your day centers on driving data-informed decisions across the RME network. You'll start by reviewing ticket queues and updating project status in Taskei/Asana, ensuring alignment with quarterly roadmaps. Throughout the day, you'll build and maintain QuickSight visualizations for operational metrics, collaborate with partner teams to unlock new data sources, and optimize existing SQL queries for performance tracking. You'll spend time working with teams across Amazon's tech landscape - from Operations Technology to HR Systems - while documenting progress and sharing insights through regular stakeholder updates.

About The Team

The North America Reliability and Maintenance Engineering (NA RME) Strategy team drives the long-term vision for Amazon's maintenance organization. Supporting a network of over 1,500 facilities and more than 20,000 maintenance professionals (Amazon employees and third-party providers), we develop strategic initiatives to improve maintenance efficiency and enhance equipment reliability across our fulfillment network. Working closely with RME leadership, Finance, Operations, PXT, Talent Acquisition, and Technology teams, we deliver data-driven insights that shape maintenance program investments, workforce planning, and technology adoption to maintain Amazon's world-class operational standards.

Basic Qualifications

  • 2+ years of analyzing and interpreting data with Redshift, Oracle, NoSQL etc. experience
  • Experience with data visualization using Tableau, Quicksight, or similar tools
  • Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines
  • Experience in Statistical Analysis packages such as R, SAS and Matlab
  • Experience using SQL to pull data from a database or data warehouse and scripting experience (Python) to process data for modeling

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AWS solutions such as EC2, DynamoDB, S3, and Redshift
  • Experience in data mining, ETL, etc. and using databases in a business environment with large-scale, complex datasets

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $89,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
