Description

This position is responsible for ensuring all personnel activities are conducted in a safe manner and in accordance with the Radiation Protection Program. This is an hourly, non-exempt position.

Duties

Include But Are Not Limited To

  • Use portable and stationary radiological monitoring equipment to monitor various work environments to ensure the safety of the personnel and/or visitors, the plant, and the local environment. The knowledge, experience and use of such equipment determine work decisions.
  • Maintain Safety and ALARA (As Low as Reasonably Achievable) work practices.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required in some work locations; must have the ability to acquire a respirator fit card and ability to wear respiratory equipment when needed (APR’s – Air Purifying Respirators and SA-Supplied Air systems are used).
  • Must follow engineering and administrative controls in place to limit exposure to heat, cold, and other environmental factors encountered in a physically demanding work environment; including the capability to lift 45lbs and to carry portable instrumentation in the work area(s).
  • Must attend monthly (at a minimum) safety meetings and immediately report any unsafe condition to the HP Lead, HP Manager, RSO, and/or General Manager/Vice-President; coordinate ideas and suggestions with the Safety Committee.
  • Immediately report any unsafe condition which may lead to or cause a violation or regulatory requirements, license conditions or unnecessary radiation exposure to the General Manager or Radiation Safety Officer (RSO).
  • Attendance history and individual performance is evaluated at least annually or periodically when circumstances require more frequent interface with an employee.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Recognizing and properly monitoring for radiological hazards associated with routine and workplace job coverage is essential, and HP qualification progression will be evaluated on an on-going basis.
  • Ability to work independently and without supervision and be able to communicate effectively with all levels of staff.
  • Demonstrate ability to follow procedures, work packages and/or protocols.
  • Demonstrate ability to use radiological instrumentation, source check/efficiency tests and establish MDC/MDA.
  • Capable to assist in accident, emergency response and follow-up activities.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail in written communications is a must in meeting regulatory and administrative procedure requirements.
  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent; radiological waste handing experience preferred; 24hr Hazardous Materials Worker Training required.
  • Must be able to wear respiratory protection on occasion (includes fit test and physical).

Working Conditions

Will work outside in all weather conditions and inside in an industrial-type environment. The approximate time in minutes spent with the following movements in a 9 hour (540 minutes) work day shift: Sitting (90) standing (270) walking (150) bending (25) arms above head (5) minutes. Some work locations require wearing PPE (see description in third bullet above).

Salary Description

$25.00-$40.00 an hour
