Position Overview

Under the direction and supervision of the program director, the Behavioral Support Worker, will provide in-home interventions designed to stabilize youth and empower caregivers. Behavioral Support Workers will support youth in developing social and daily living skills, managing behaviors, and improving overall emotional regulation. Behavior Support Workers will coach and educate both youth and their caregivers on de-escalation techniques, social-emotional learning, and typical child development. The Behavioral Support Worker will assist in practicing skills, serving as a role-play partner, and highlighting the youth’s strengths to ensure they are gaining confidence and competence in their interactions.

Essential Functions

  • Assisting the youth with developing positive social skills with other children and adults
  • Assisting the youth with building positive, health relationships
  • Providing the youth with positive reinforcement to build confidence
  • Providing services face to face, via phone, office, home, or community setting
  • Providing support and psychoeducation for parents/caregivers
  • Educating, modeling, and motivating the youth to increase their involvement with others in their community
  • Focusing on a strengths-based approach
  • Identifying and providing information about the child’s needs and strengths
  • Identification and building of natural supports
  • Setting goals, designing and implementing and evaluating outcomes of programs
  • Supports the youth and family during times of crisis
  • Works closely with a multidisciplinary team
  • Responsible for the timely submission of Medicaid mental health billing
  • Participates in weekly team meetings
  • Traveling from various locations within the community to provide the family and youth with supports
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Ability and knowledge of basic computer programs for service documentation and report writing

Physical Demands

  • Remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods
  • Operate motor vehicles
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to, stand, sit; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard reach, stoop kneel to install computer equipment
  • Physical activities that could be used include: driving, balancing, pulling, pushing, standing, climbing, grasping, stooping, crouching, crawling, kneeling, reaching, lifting, and repetitive motion.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must have a valid driver’s license in the state of Illinois
  • Attend initial and ongoing required training (provided on site)
