Chatsworth Products is seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer with significant mechanical, thermal, and plumbing design experience to aid in research, development, design, and testing of mechanical/electromechanical products and systems for cooling solutions. This role requires an expert in heat and fluid flow, with a proven ability to tackle complex design challenges. The ideal candidate excels in advanced modeling and clearly communicates technical insights. They will assist in the fabrication, operation, installation, and repair of mechanical/electromechanical products and systems while maintaining efforts to enhance and expand cooling technologies. Their excellent communication skills will ensure seamless collaboration with cross-functional teams, facilitating effective project delivery in a dynamic environment.

Job Duties

  • Develop the mechanical design of heat transfer products/systems, including chilled water systems, air/water-cooled refrigerant systems, and fluid pumping systems.
  • Perform basic 3D CAD design/modeling (SolidWorks and/or sheet-metal design knowledge preferred).
  • Research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, and manuals to determine design or application feasibility.
  • Create comprehensive engineering documentation for system designs, using Excel, Bill of Materials, fluid routing drawings, and mechanical drawings.
  • Provide support in generating technical information for sales literature and application queries.
  • Design test control apparatus and equipment while developing methods and procedures for product/system testing.
  • Review products to verify compliance with applicable industry standards.
  • Conduct simple structural and heat transfer analysis and load calculations.
  • Create documentation for the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of products/systems.
  • Evaluate field installations and recommend design modifications to prevent malfunctions.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Advanced Degree in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering or similar.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in HVAC, fluid mechanics, thermal design, plumbing design, or a similar role.
  • Ability to perform duties listed below with little training or oversight.
  • Ability to track their own tasks for projects and maintain frequent communication with cross-functional team on progress, deliverables, and needs.

  • Willingness to travel for project needs and collaborations.
  • Adaptability to work in office and lab/manufacturing environments.
  • Capacity for hands-on prototype development, including standing for long periods.
  • Skilled use of instruments for thermal evaluation and measurement.
  • Adherence to safety protocols with thermal devices and high-temperature settings.
