GENERAL SUMMARY

The Dietetic Technician is responsible for resident and participant nutrition care planning, implementation and evaluation under the supervision and guidance of the Registered Dietitian.

The Dietetic Technician is a contributing member of the interdisciplinary team in establishing and implementing the interdisciplinary care plan.

Principal Duties And Essential Functions

Job duties specific to this position:

Meal planning and menu development:

Responsible for creating individual meal patterns to meet resident and participant needs/ preferences.

Assists Dietitian in screening of residents or participants. May recommend diets and supplements.

Ensures meals and snacks are served per planned menus.

Coordinates resident's and participant’s meal selection in accordance with personal preference and diet regimen. Follows up with new enrollees/admissions regarding nutrition plan of care/acceptance.

Nutrition Assessment:

  Accurately completes nutrition assessments, as assigned.

Assists Dietitian in assessment of weight loss/gain of residents and participants.

Completes required documentation thoroughly, accurately, and promptly (i.e., nutrition assessments, weight logs, admission and discharge, etc.).

  Reviews hospital discharge information when available.

Monitoring and Tracking:

Performs intake/output assessments through observation at mealtimes and documents findings.

Reports any potential nutritional concerns to the Registered Dietitian.

Assists Dietitian in the follow-up of nutrition complaints or concerns. Makes modifications as appropriate.

Monitor weight trends.

MDS completion.

Communication:

Communicates resident and participant comments regarding meal acceptance.

Attend Interdisciplinary Care plan meetings.

Nutrition Education: May provide diet counseling to residents or participants, resident/participant families, friends and staff regarding dietary restrictions.

Maintaining Records: Participates in the Quality Assurance Program, surveys, audits and correction plans.

Complies with all corporate policies and procedures, and adheres to federal, state and other sanitation guidelines.

Maintains resident/participant meal profiles in the dining software system.

Performs a variety of related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Two (2) years clinical or food service experience in a clinical setting, preferably in a long term/acute care organization.

Associates degree in food service or nutrition related field.

Dietetic technician registration is desirable.

Proven organizational skills. Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment. Ability to communicate effectively with participants, residents, and families from diverse backgrounds . Strong oral and written communications skills required. Basic computer skills required.
