Job Overview

The Physical Therapist is responsible for the evaluation and forming treatment plans of inpatients ranging from young adult to geriatric.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Doctoral Degree or Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy from a CAPTE accredited school or equivalent

Preferred

  • 2 years or more experience

Certifications And Licenses Required

  • New Jersey board license in Physical Therapy
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association

Scheduling Requirements

  • Shift working, mostly weekday coverage, 8:30am-4:30pm

Essential Functions

  • Arranges daily schedule as needed
  • Takes patients at scheduled time
  • Exhibits flexibility in dealing with daily scheduling issues
  • Works well with front desk staff in the scheduling of patients
  • Performs examinations in a timely manner and consistent with department policy (including short and long term goals)
  • Treatment plan reflects the needs of patients identified in the examination
  • Provides treatment that includes but is not limited to: Gait Training, Therapeutic Exercises, Modalities: Heat, Ultrasound, Electricity (AC/DC/Interferential/Russian), ADL Training (transfers, dressing), Assistive Device adjustment and Training, Patient/staff Education, Other treatment as defined within the scope of legal practice
  • Prioritizes patient needs according to department policy/professional standards/state and Federal statute-regulations
  • Shows willingness to assist other staff members in meeting their patient care responsibilities
  • For All Documentation, notes are legible (notes and signature)
  • All clinicians use only approved abbreviations - Physical Therapists perform and document reexaminations as necessary
  • Enters examinations into computer on the day it was performed
  • Completes progress notes on same day of service
  • Enters accurate charges for each treatment performed
  • Accurately completes the statistics form in a timely manner
  • Maintains all documentation necessary for reimbursement (MD scripts, visit authorizations)
  • Supervises Rehabilitation Aides in their patient-related duties
  • Insures that aides use proper techniques when assisting a therapist with a patient
  • Follows all legal/regulatory restrictions regarding the use of Aides
  • Follows policy related to referring patients to the Restorative Aide Program
  • Considers patient criticality, PTA knowledge and experience when assigning patients to a PTA
  • Insures that treatment plan determined by the physical therapist is carried out by the PTA
  • Reviews and cosigns PTA notes
  • Demonstrates understanding of the department polices related to the Student Program
  • Gives timely, constructive feedback to the PTA student
  • Reviews PTA student documentation prior to insertion into medical record
  • Provides for other related experiences such as observing surgery in conjunction with the clinical coordinator
  • Supervises volunteers as needed and in compliance with department and hospital policies
  • Demonstrates compliance with findings from QI program findings
  • Participates in inservices and training activities as indicated
  • Provides input into improving the operations of the department and the quality of care provided
