Description
The Assistant Controller will report to the Insurance Group Controller and will be responsible for internal and external financial reporting on a statutory and GAAP basis, internal control documentation, and insurance regulatory reporting.
Essential Functions

The Assistant Controller will report to the Insurance Group Controller and will be responsible for internal and external financial reporting on a statutory and GAAP basis, internal control documentation, and insurance regulatory reporting.
Essential Functions
The Assistant Controller responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Management and oversight of Accounting and Financial functions for the organization
- Management and leadership for the general ledger accounting team including supervision of staff, i.e., progress reviews, necessary plans for improvement and team building
- Responsible for the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of all internal and external financial reporting
- Oversee the documentation and testing of financial reporting controls
- Coordination of quarterly reviews of financial reporting activities
- Oversight of the preparation of monthly financial reports, including consolidated financial statements and cash flow statements
- Research on technical accounting issues
- Maintaining records of accounting policies and procedures
- Assisting in the communication with external auditors and the Controller
Required Education and Experience:
- BA in Accounting required; master’s degree preferred
- CPA required
- 5-7 years of experience in increasingly responsible accounting positions
- 3+ years supervisory experience leading a team of accounting professionals
- Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP)
- 5+ years’ Property & Casualty Insurance experience (YellowBook Statutory reporting)
- Creative thinker with excellent problem-solving skills
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills (written & oral)
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Must have a hands-on management style with the ability to manage different entities within the organization with different needs
- Ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
- Proven ability to lead teams who can plan, organize, and set priorities in order to meet deadlines
- Demonstrated leader who is intelligent, articulate and takes pride in personal and team accomplishments
- Must be able to successfully work cross-functionally, cooperation and inclusion peers and their teams
