Job Description

The Desert Research Institute (DRI) is seeking to fill a part-time Administrative Assistant/Receptionist position at its Las Vegas, NV (SNSC) campus. The successful candidate will provide administrative support to various functions located on the SNSC campus, including serving as primary back-up to the main reception function, as well as other administrative duties for the DRI President and Chief of Staff including greeting visitors, answering phones, delivering mail, and accepting and appropriately managing shipping and receiving, as well as maintaining, ordering, and restocking supplies.

This position also serves as a SNSC campus event coordinator and will work under the direction of the events planner at DRI's Northern Nevada campus to plan and implement internal and external events for DRI. Responsibilities may include event planning, decorating, logistics (including set-up and tear-down) purchasing supplies, ordering catering, and meeting and/or picking up catering deliveries.

Additionally, this position will also provide administrative and clerical support to Human Resources, Vice President of Research (VPR) office, Advancement, Financial Services and Facilities. Examples of duties include assisting with recruitment search materials, new employee onboarding materials, HR file creation and filing, room set-up for meetings and events, and general administrative and clerical duties.

Required Qualifications

  • High School degree or equivalent and one year of full-time administrative experience
  • Basic computers skills and working knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint, e-mail, internet, and scheduling programs
  • Basic telephone (PBX) operator skills
  • Basic knowledge of shipping and receiving procedures
  • Basic understanding how to handle emergency situations
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of personnel, including technical and academic staff
  • Professionalism demonstrated through a high degree of confidentiality and the ability to exercise independent judgement
  • Must have strong customer service, interpersonal, and team-oriented skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in an environment with frequent interruptions and changing priorities
  • Ability to work independently and carry out assignments with minimal supervision
  • Possess a valid driver's license by date of hire

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience planning and implementing internal or external events

Conditions of Employment

  • This position requires the ability to perform physical tasks, such as moving, carrying, and lifting objects up to 30 lbs.; walking, sitting, and standing for prolonged periods of time; occasional stooping, bending, and kneeling to support office, event set-up and clean-up
  • Employment is contingent upon a successful completion of a background check

Hours/Pay

  • This is an hourly position with a salary of $25-$30/hour depending on experience. This position is not eligible for benefits.

Schedule

  • Up to 20 hours per week Monday through Friday, flexible schedule between 8 am and 5 pm.
