Saturday-Friday; 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM.

  • Seven (7) consecutive workdays followed by four days off, with scheduled days off occurring from Saturday through Tuesday.
  • Requires the employee to be on campus for emergency operations.
  • Be available to return to the plant in emergency situations with no more than 30-minute notice.

Salary Salary is commensurate based on qualifications and relevant experience. Pay Basis Monthly Job Summary

The Plant Maintenance Mechanic provides assistance in the operation, maintenance, and repair of Thermal Energy Plant equipment, systems and structures.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain high-pressure steam boilers, cooling towers, compressors, pumps, and related equipment.
  • Read and record pressures, fluid levels, and other operation conditions.
  • Produce computer reports and printouts as needed from results.
  • Prepare maintenance logs and equipment status reports on PC and log sheets.
  • Perform and record water analysis.
  • Perform required maintenance work and clean, oil, and/or paint equipment and buildings as necessary.
  • Run campus errands for the shop and visit campus sites to examine equipment and machines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma.
  • Three (3) years of related experience.
  • Three (3) years of experience performing a variety of sub-journeyman-level maintenance and repair tasks or the equivalent experience.
  • Valid Texas driver license with three (3) years of driving history.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Thermal Energy Plant operation.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the functions of a central utility plant.
  • Knowledge of building automation systems (i.e. Siemens, Johnson Controls, etc.)
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills (i.e. Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Knowledge of boilers and chillers.
  • Able to climb stairs and ladders.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to drive a UTA vehicle.

Other Requirements

  • Conditions do involve exposure to all weather elements.
  • Must be able to work off ladders, scaffolding, and tops/roofs of buildings.
  • Working conditions are considered acceptable but occasionally involve exposure to one (1) or more disagreeable elements such as
    • biohazards, toxic lab chemicals, poisonous gases, dust, dirt, high voltage, and the need to work in confined spaces, extreme cold or hot, and all-weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, bend, stand, sit, kneel, and squat.
