Christian 1:1 Mentor with Individuals with Special Needs

Position Overview:

The Christian 1:1 Mentor at Holy Ground Sensory Friendly Worship is responsible for providing individualized support and guidance to individuals with special needs. This role emphasizes the importance of understanding the mentee’s identity, purpose, spirituality, and social development. The mentor will employ appropriate learning styles, visual aids, and techniques tailored to the pace and preferences of each mentee, with the ultimate goal of fostering wholeness.

Key Responsibilities:

• Work one-on-one with assigned individuals with special needs, ensuring personalized attention and support.
• Focus on the mentee’s identity, purpose, spirituality, and social plan through engaging and adaptable methods.
• Work with mentors to utilize appropriate learning styles and visual aids to enhance the mentoring experience.
• Facilitate two hours of teaching each Sunday from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM.
• Attend a monthly mentors' fellowship on one Saturday each month for collaboration and support.
• Review curriculum and lectionary materials, planning activities for Sunday services.
• Complete a 12-week training program, dedicating one hour per week with a mentor to develop skills and strategies for effective mentorship.
• Examine the application form, connect with the parent, and match the special needs individual with an appropriate mentor.

Qualifications:

• Basic foundations in Christian Sunday School teachings.
• A genuine passion for working with individuals with special needs.
• Flexibility and adaptability in approach to meet the diverse needs of mentees.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Commitment:

• This position requires a commitment of 5 hours per week, including teaching time, fellowship meetings, and training sessions.
• A minimum of three months commitment renewable.
