What To Expect
Tesla is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to join our dynamic team, supporting testing and analysis of materials and chemicals used in battery cell production. This role is critical in ensuring the quality and performance of Tesla’s advanced energy storage technologies.
What You'll Do
Perform weld analysis and prepare metallographic samples for microscopy using machine shop tools and etchant chemicals Conduct charged cell teardowns while wearing PPE, including powered air-purifying respirators (PAPR) Interpret complex test data, create detailed reports, and provide clear conclusions to guide the Quality Operations team Maintain consumable inventory and enforce 5S practices to ensure laboratory cleanliness, organization, and safety Refine testing procedures, draft and update SOPs, and ensure laboratory readiness to support operational needs Operate machine shop and laboratory tools, including angle grinders, bandsaws, grinders & polishers, optical microscopes, and water mills
What You'll Bring
Hands-on proficiency with machine shop and laboratory tools (angle grinder, bandsaw, grinder & polisher, water mill, optical microscope, etc.) Ability to quickly learn proprietary testing methods and operate specialized equipment Strong attention to detail with excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with LIMS or other internal quality systems a plus Fluency in English for documentation and communication Ability to wear PPE, including powered air-purifying respirators (PAPR)
