Responsibilities
Clinical Activities
Contribute to the antibiotic utilization program in order to achieve 5 goals: to reduce the emergence of resistant organisms; to reduce the incidence of untoward events; to reduce the incidence of drug-drug interactions; to enhance clinical efficacy (both prevention and treatment); and to reduce antibiotic-related costs. Augment the present antibiotic utilization program by establishing guidelines and educational programs, as well as monitoring selective, expensive agents, and recently FDA approved compounds.
Teaching Responsibilities
Participate in the teaching/supervision of students and residents assigned to Regan 6 South, the infectious disease elective and the Comprehensive Care Center. Participate in faculty development sessions, board review course, resident didactic lecture series and resident morning report sessions.
Administrative Activities
Physician will engage in the development and implementation of those patient improvement guidelines developed by the Infectious Diseases Society of America.
Scholarly Activities
Participate in research/scholarly activities and strive to publish results in peer-reviewed journals.
Expectations
As a full-time salaried member of the Department of Medicine, physician is expected to attend Infectious Disease Division meetings, quarterly Department of Medicine meetings and Medical Grand Rounds.
Physician is expected to all other duties as assigned by the Chief of Infectious Disease and the Chairman of Medicine.

St. Joseph’s University Medical Center is an academic tertiary care medical center and state designated trauma center, located on the Paterson campus, regularly accepts referrals of difficult or unusual cases from other hospitals and physicians and performs both complex and routine procedures.
The Medical Center offers a full complement of specialty and subspecialty services including ambulatory, behavioral health, cardiovascular, emergency/trauma, internal medicine, neuroscience, oncology, orthopedic/spine, rehabilitation, surgical specialty, women’s health, imaging and pediatrics.
The nursing team at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center, which includes St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital, has held the Magnet Award for Nursing Excellence, the profession’s highest honor, since 1999. Clinical Activities
- Provide inpatient (Paterson and Wayne locations) and outpatient infectious disease consultation services.
- Provide services to HIV-infected patients attending the Comprehensive Care Center.
- Provide services to patients attending the STD clinic at the Paterson Board of Health
