General Summary

Do you enjoy hands-on work that keeps facilities safe and operational? As an Airport Maintenance Laborer with Oakland County, you’ll support the upkeep of airport buildings, grounds, runways, taxiways, and equipment across all three County-owned airports. From snow removal and landscaping to assisting with mechanical and building repairs, your work directly contributes to the safety, security, and reliability of airport operations. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys variety, teamwork, and working outdoors in a fast-paced environment where every day brings new challenges.

What You’ll Do

  • Keep airport facilities, runways, and grounds safe through hands-on maintenance and repair.
  • Team up with other airport employees to service heavy equipment, vehicles, and building systems.
  • Operate tools and County vehicles to tackle landscaping and transport needs.
  • Clear snow and ice, maintain pavements and drainage, and ensure year-round safe operations.
  • Monitor airfields and buildings for hazards or damage and promptly report concerns.
  • Support special events, while maintaining records of repairs and maintenance.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Have passed their 18th birthday; OR be at least 16 years old and a high school graduate; OR have completed the state requirements for the General Educational Development Test (GED); OR be an emancipated minor.
  • Have had at least six (6) months of full-time work experience in a construction or maintenance field or related area.
  • Possess a valid United States motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license. Out of Country driver’s license holders will be required to obtain the appropriate valid State of Michigan driver’s license before the hire date.
  • Pass the complete examination, including the employment medical, established for this classification.
  • Successfully complete the six month probationary period.

Special Requirements

Must maintain a valid United States motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license.

Pay Range

USD $37,443.00 - USD $50,165.00 /Yr.
