Job Overview
Bragg Crane & Rigging is a union steel erector with projects in southern California. The BC&R Project Manager will oversee all aspects of structural steel construction projects from inception to completion. This includes estimating, planning, scheduling, coordinating with/managing steel fabricators and subcontractors, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards, and delivering projects on time and within budget. The ideal candidate has deep knowledge of steel fabrication and erection, strong leadership skills, and proven experience managing complex steel erection construction projects in a union environment.

Key Responsibilities
Preconstruction Phase
- Project Preparation: Lead or support structural steel erection pursuits, including preparing detailed cost estimates and bid packages, bid-quality CPM schedules and conceptual project execution plans. Collaborate with general contractors, construction managers, engineers, architects, fabricators and customers to define and finalize project scopes. Work with steel fabricators, subcontractors and internal teams to develop execution plans that align with company and project target milestones.
- Contract Review and Procurement: Review contracts for scope clarity, risk, and operational feasibility. Manage procurement of structural steel fabricators and the selection and onboarding of subcontractors.
- Project Planning & Execution: Lead structural steel erection projects from estimating and planning through closeout. Develop comprehensive work plans, CPM schedules, and short-term lookahead schedules. Conduct site visits to monitor progress and resolve issues. Conduct routine site visits to assess progress, resolve issues, and maintain productivity.
- Project Safety Management: Promote a strong safety culture by preparing job and task hazard analyses, performing on-site monitoring of the work, and ensuring compliance with OSHA, CalOSHA, and company safety standards.
- Project Financial Oversight and Performance: Establish and manage project budgets, track cost performance, perform budget to actual cost variance analysis, and prepare accurate cost forecasts. Establish project schedules of values and oversee invoicing and collections to maintain positive cash flow.
- Project Change & Risk Management: Proactively manage change orders, claims, and contract compliance to mitigate risk and ensure project alignment.
- Team Leadership: Direct field supervisors, crews, and subcontractors to ensure safe and efficient execution. Coordinate with fabrication and field teams to review and approve erection plans, shop drawings and field changes.
- Project Documentation & Reporting: Maintain detailed records including RFIs, submittals, daily reports, change order logs, and financial documentation. Utilize project management software for Earned Value Management and provide regular updates to senior leadership.
- Quality Control & Assurance: Implement and manage quality control measures to ensure steel fabrication, delivery, and erection meet contractual and AISC standards.
- Vendor & Subcontractor Coordination: Collaborate with fabricators, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure compliance with contractual requirements and industry standards.
- Customer Satisfaction: Address client concerns and ensure erected steel structures meet all applicable quality and contractual standards.

- Relationship Management: Cultivate strong, professional relationships with customers, fabricators, suppliers, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders.

- Education: Bachelor’s degree in an applicable area of study, B.S. in Civil Engineering preferred.
- Experience: 10+ years in construction project management, including at least five (5) years of structural steel construction project management experience.
- Industry Knowledge: Strong knowledge of steel fabrication, erection methods, and construction codes. Strong knowledge of structural steel fabrication, erection methods and construction codes, including AISC structural steel fabrication and erection criteria.
- Project Management: Deep understanding of estimating, tracking, reporting, managing and controlling costs.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Procore, P6, Bluebeam), as well as with common office software (e.g., Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Adobe Pro/Bluebeam, etc.)
- Management Skills: Excellent leadership, written and oral communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Certifications: OSHA 30 certification preferred.
- Driving Requirements: Due to the safety sensitive nature of the role, the candidate must be able to pass initial and random drug screenings. The individual will be driving as a function of the role; therefore, you must possess a valid driver's license.
- Work Authorization: Applicants must be a United States citizen or a lawful permanent United States resident authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship now or in the future.
- Physical Requirements: Physical demands and mobility requirements of this position:
- Standing, walking, sitting and navigating rough terrain
- The ability for unassisted tours of job sites, including walking or traversing uneven, unpaved ground and accessing unfinished structures by climbing stairs or ladders to inspect work areas.
- The ability to sit for prolonged periods at a desk and working on a phone and computer.
- The ability to change positions frequently, from sitting at a desk for planning and computer work to regularly standing and walking while touring job sites.
- Lifting and dexterity
- Bending and reaching: The ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, as well as reach above the shoulders or below the waist.
- Lifting and carrying: While not a primary function, the ability to occasionally lift and move materials, including objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance.
- Manual dexterity: The ability to use hands and fingers for tasks like operating a computer, phone or tablet and managing files.
- Sensory abilities
- Vision: Specific visual abilities that allow for reviewing blueprints, inspecting work, and operating vehicles, including close, distance, color and peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Hearing: The ability to communicate and operate safely on noisy job sites.
- Project Manager Salary: $130,000-$170,000 per year
- Senior Project Manager Salary: $160,000-$200,000 per year
