ACCOUNTING AND GRANTS FISCAL MANAGER

The Mississippi Center for Justice (MCJ) seeks a skilled Accounting and Grants Fiscal Manager (AGFM) for the Finance Department. The individual hired for this role will be under the direct supervision of the Director of Finance and Accounting (DOFA) and will perform various accounting and grants management duties in support of the DOFA and the Finance Department.
MCJ is a nonprofit, public interest law firm committed to advancing racial and economic justice statewide. Our lawyers work with community leaders to support their social justice campaigns and to channel the energies of the legal community to combat discrimination and poverty. With offices in Jackson, Gulfport, and Indianola, we seek systemic solutions that protect the rights of consumers, secure access to healthcare and education, defend voting rights for all, and make fair and affordable housing available for all Mississippians.
Position Summary
The AGFM is responsible for accounting and fiscal grants management for MCJ and in support of the DOFA and the Finance Department. The AGFM would serve as the lead on the monthly closeout process, which includes accounts payable, accounts receivables, bank and credit card reconciliation, payroll journal entries, and budget reporting. The AGFM will also serve as the fiscal manager for grants, including preparing financial reports to funding agencies and maintaining grant budgets.
Job Responsibilities
This is a full-time, in-person position based in our Jackson, Gulfport, or Indianola office. The
AGFM’s job responsibilities may include the following, as assigned by the DOFA:
Accounting:
- Maintain general ledger accounts in accounting software system.
- Record and maintain payables, receivables and other financial transactions in
accounting software system.
- Conduct monthly review of accounts payable and accounts receivable during monthly
closeout process.
- Conduct bank and credit card reconciliations during monthly closeout process.
- Prepare monthly budget reports for campaign directors.
- Assist with annual audit preparations and submittals.
- Enter payroll journal entries in accounting software system.
Grants Management:
- Oversee grant compliance with federal statutes under 2 CFR 200, as well as state
and local regulations, and monitor all purchasing guidelines set forth.
- Assist with the preparation of grant budgets.
- Prepare financial reports for funding agencies according to grant agreements and
scheduling.
- Participate in scheduled grant meetings with campaign directors and funding
agencies.
Fiscal Management – HUD Grants:
- Draft budgets and budget modifications.
- Estimated quarterly and/or each budget period
- Provide monthly monitoring of budget vs. actual spending.
- Provide monthly financial reporting to the Housing Law Campaign Director.
- Ensure financial compliance.
Other duties as assigned in support of the DOFA and Finance Department.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting (or equivalent); Master’s degree
preferred;
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting or finance required;
- Experience in grant financial reporting and budgeting;
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task;
- Demonstrated commitment to the mission of the Mississippi Center for Justice and
to advancing racial and economic justice;
- Technological competency: Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word and Excel;
and
- Experience with QuickBooks and Bill.com preferred
