Summary
Assist with GIS tasks as needed such as graphic editing, line cleaning, topology building, database updating, data research, creation and maintenance. Assist user departments as well as GIS department with drafting and data entry as needed. Assist with acquisition and quality control of GIS data.
Pay Rate: $20.00
Work Schedule: 20 hours a week
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
The incumbent works in a shop; occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. There is occasional need for outside work. The position requires that the employee be able to lift 50 pounds, work in close/cramped areas, work in dusty conditions, work in low-light conditions and be able to sit, stand, kneel, crouch and bend for moderate periods of time. The incumbent must be able to use fingers to feel and have sufficient dexterity to sort and hold small wires, connect punch-downs and install small connectors into sockets. The incumbent must be able to discern a broad spectrum of colors used in electronic cabling.

- Assist with GIS tasks as needed such as graphic editing, line cleaning, topology building, database update, and plotting using ESRI’s suite of GIS products.
- Assist user departments as well as GIS department with drafting and data entry as needed.
- High School Diploma, some college-level coursework in geographic information systems preferred
- Computer aptitude required
- One semester of a college GIS software course or 1 year of GIS software usage being self-taught
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Familiar with vector and raster geographic data types and understand the concepts of map projections and geo-rectifications.
- Understand the various sources of geographic information, such as paper or mylar maps and remotely sensed data including satellite and aerial imaging.
- Familiar with digitizing methods and graphic editing concepts.
- Occasional travel in personal vehicle to other city offices.
- Office environment
- Some field work may be necessary for verifying addresses and other data validation
- Work at a desk with a personal computer for 20 hours per week
