Job Summary
As a member of the Artistic Development & Production team, a Paint & Pigment Specialist is an integral part and creative collaborator in artistic productions. A Paint & Pigment Specialist is expected to assist and occasionally lead teams of multidisciplinary creators on Meow Wolf production projects. This role includes, but is not limited to, creating artistic components for exhibitions, standalone installations, and experiences created by Meow Wolf Inc.
A Paint & Pigment Specialist will have experience working in a collaborative environment and will demonstrate proficiency working with a variety of art materials and techniques. They will display willingness and potential to both lead small teams and assist others on projects. Paint & Pigment Specialists will display a notable attention to detail and a high level of craftsmanship in their finished work. Paint & Pigment Specialists will receive day-to-day direction from Production Managers and collaborate closely with Project stakeholders and partnering departments. They will strive to bring out the best in others, both creatively and culturally as a considerate and reliable team member.
Project tasks may include concept ideation, materials estimates, production planning, gathering supplies, material preparation, research, design development, production of artistic elements, onsite installation, and keeping a tidy work area.

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and scanners. This position also works in an indoor setting with exposure to noisy environments, dim lighting, strong visual effects including strobing lights, special effects, fog machines and small and/ or enclosed spaces.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Physical ability to walk, stand, take stairs/slides/elevators, and navigate the elements during the day and night. Employee may be required to remain in a sitting or standing position for prolonged periods, and repeat motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee will routinely use respirators in the presence of any dusts, fogs, fumes, mists, gasses, smokes, sprays, or vapors. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds at times.
The employee will comply with company and OSHA standard workplace safety protocols. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Work Schedule
This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 9a.m. to 5 p.m. or 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

This position will require some travel (10%-25%)

Key Responsibilities
- Your primary responsibility will be to further the creation of artwork with your expertise in using paint systems, performing surface preparation, color application, and top coating. You will possess a depth of understanding of this process that will enable you to offer consultation to team members on proper technique, paint strategy, and color selection. You will also understand the use of a paint booth well enough to make recommendations on operational efficiency, diagnose issues, recommend repairs, train other team members when needed, and identify machine upgrades that will benefit the overall operation of the team.
- Demonstrated proficiency working with various paint types, including Matthew’s Paint System, pigments and binders, surface preparation, color mixing, matching, and theory, paint durability, various application techniques including spray, brush, and roller methods, repair and restoration techniques, sealants and protective finishes.
- Demonstrated ability in some of the following skills: Sewing, Modeling and sculpture, Surfacing techniques, Casting and mold-making, Mount-making, Light carpentry and/or metal working, Figurative and representational realism in 2D or 3D media, Digital media, Technology fabrication
- Responsibility and ownership over the paint booth work area along with all relevant materials, tools, inventory, and equipment
- Guide and mentor other AD&P Team members in the processes, materials, and equipment associated with paint and pigment
- Research and develop new methods, materials, and equipment associated with specialty paint work, as needed
- Display a refined sense of attention to detail and accuracy of painted work
- Makes good use of recycled/reused materials in finished works of art
- Able to problem solve when issues arise, and effectively formulate new plans
- Willingness to take initiative on projects or tasks
- Willingness to explain methods and occasionally teach others to share knowledge
- Work closely with Project and Team Managers to ensure efficient project development
- Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and professionalism in all interactions
- 5+ years professional experience specializing in artistic paint and pigment applications
- 3+ years experience with permanent exhibition design, artistic production, and installation
- OSHA 10 certification
- Excellent time management skills, ability to multitask and prioritize items within a fast paced environment
- Demonstrates safe work practices at all times
- Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and a sense of humor
- Adaptable to changing needs and possesses the ability to take on new tasks
- Ability to function well on team efforts as well as solo projects
- Knowledge of industry safety practices and regulations
- Google Suite proficient
