Position Summary

Denver Botanic Gardens is currently seeking a Full Time Manager of Foundation and Government Grants in our Development Department! Read below to see if the requirements might be a good fit for you:

The Manager of Foundation and Government Grants is responsible for the identification and cultivation of potential private foundation funding sources, followed with the solicitation and stewarding of the associated grants. Additionally, researching, identifying, soliciting and stewarding funding relationships with potential government funders, both locally and nationally. The manager works with content experts across the institution to build compelling requests and to report on the specific uses of grants received, within the scope of the funding.

Requirements

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the creation of comprehensive foundation and government grant proposals by working closely with department directors and by working closely with foundation/government representatives.
  • Compiles proposal materials and information and writes, edits proposals for unrestricted, restricted and budget relieving funding from foundations, government entities, individuals and corporation foundations. Includes project budgets and supporting documentation
  • Conducts regular prospective research related to foundation and government funding sources
  • Manages the fulfillment of reporting for all grants, within the parameters of the funder.
  • Stewards and fosters strong relationships with foundation and government representatives
  • Maintains strong fiscal management of organization resources allocated to support grants activities.
  • Oversees the creation of the annual SCFD proposal, including coordination with CEO, Finance and other departments as necessary for comprehensive budget and audience reporting.
  • Fosters relationships with foundation and government representatives for CEO and other institutional leaders.
  • Analyzes and tracks results of all grant results throughout the year, including advancement of long-term relationships,
  • Regular attendance at the worksite may be required. As with all positions at Denver Botanic Gardens, the incumbent must be in good performance standing to be eligible for remote work. Remote work is at the discretion of management at all times.

Position Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must have knowledge of private and public grant making – ability to write proposals and reports, connect with current and prospective funders.
  • Must be knowledgeable in trends, laws and demographics related to philanthropy.
  • Must have impeccable written/verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to organize narrative, financial and statistical data with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of SalesForce or other CRM system a plus.
  • Must have proven excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills in dealing with the public.
  • Ability to maintain stability under pressure and able to deal well with stressful situations.
  • Ability to be flexible and willing to modify plans when necessary, throughout the day.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Suite products, specifically Word, Excel and Outlook and Teams.
  • Ability to work overtime as necessary.
  • Must be a positive representative of the Gardens both internally and externally at all times.
  • Must work with respect and cooperation at all times with fellow employees and the public.
  • Must be committed to working safely at all times.

Experience/Education

  • Bachelors degree and/or combination of education and equivalent experience is required.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in non-profit fund raising is required, experience in grant writing and stewardship is preferred.
  • Experience with blended and/or concurrent campaigns (operating, current use restricted, capital) is a plus.
  • Fundraising certification (CFRE or ACFRE) is a plus.
  • Strong background in research of potential funding sources required.
  • Position requires a valid driver’s license.

Travel

Up to 25% travel required. Requires the ability to travel to remote locations (or other Garden locations) where environment may vary significantly.
