SUMMARY: 

Under the direction of the Deputy Director, the Recreation Manager leads the daily, front-line operations and programming of the Trails Recreation Center and other district facilities. This position is responsible for ensuring a safe, clean, and efficiently run facility while delivering high-quality recreational, cultural, and community health programs. The Recreation Manager supervises and supports full-time and part-time staff and ensures that all activities and services align with the District’s core values and mission. This full-time position operates under a 32-hour workweek, offering flexibility while maintaining operational efficiency. 

 

Hiring Range: $88,000-$98,000


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in recreation, public administration, or a related field. 
  • Five (5) years increasingly responsible experience in the administration of recreation management and programming. 
  • Five (5) years of supervisory experience of full time, part time and seasonal employees; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. 
  • Excellent organization and communication skills. 
  • Training and experience in internal and external customer service. 
  • Proficiency with computers including Microsoft office software applications and recreation software programs. 
  • Ability to multitask; take initiative and make sound decisions. 
  • Works independently and with groups.
  • Enthusiastic, dynamic, and flexible. 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Oversee the safe and efficient operation of the Trails Recreation Center and other recreation facilities, programs, and services within the district. 
  • Monitor and evaluate operational methods, procedures, and programs, identifying and implementing improvements based on community feedback, staff input, and industry best practices. 
  • Oversee facility maintenance, cleanliness, and repair; coordinate with the Maintenance Supervisor, vendors, and staff to ensure safety and compliance with District standards. 
  • Provide leadership to Recreation Supervisors and staff, ensuring quality program delivery that meets community needs. 
  • Assist Recreation Supervisors in the ongoing evaluation, development, improvement, and implementation of recreation programs and services. 
  • Assist with long-range planning for recreation facilities and programs. 
  • Contribute to budget development; monitor revenues and expenses; and guide staff to make operational changes that ensure budget efficiency. 
  • Collaborate with the Deputy Director on continuously monitoring the district’s revenue management plan and suggest changes to maximize revenue potential. 
  • Provide leadership and support to staff, including guidance on personnel issues, disciplinary actions, and performance improvement. 
  • Conduct staff meetings and training on HR policies, service standards, and emergency procedures. 
  • Collaborate with HR to ensure compliance with federal, state, and district employment laws and practices. 
  • Create the monthly Manager on Duty schedule and participate in the rotation. 
  • Investigate and follow up on incident and accident reports, taking appropriate action as necessary. 
  • Interact with the general public addressing their issues, concerns, or comments.  
  • Monitor weather conditions and make recommendations regarding potential facility closures or program delays. 
  • Prepare reports and presentations for the senior leadership team. 
  • Assist with payroll processing, bi-weekly payables, and purchasing/bid processes for facility and program needs. 
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Manager and other departments to develop and distribute marketing materials that promote programs and services. 
  • Foster a positive work environment that encourages morale, quality, creativity, and teamwork. 
  • Maintain a professional and friendly attitude, especially in stressful situations. 
  • Support district policies and collaborate with staff to achieve goals ethically. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY: 

  • Strong leadership and management skills with demonstrated knowledge of the fundamental and accepted practices in recreation operations and administration.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain professional working relationships with other District personnel, general public, vendors, contractual companies, and representatives of other governmental agencies.

  • Work performed is in a busy and; at times, noisy environment where interruptions may exist. 
  • Ability to interact with the public in a positive and professional manner in stressful and emotionally charged situations. 
  • May require extended periods of standing and sitting.  
  • Ability to stand, reach and kneel. 
  • Ability to talk and/or hear managers, co-workers, and general public. 
  • Ability to lift, carry or transport objects up to 50 lbs. assisted. 
  • Ability to see objects closely and at a distance.
