Your Impact:
As part of our Internal Medicine team, you'll play a vital role in diagnosing and treating a wide range of diseases, including:
- Endocrine disorders (e.g., diabetes, hypothyroidism)
- Kidney & liver disease
- Gastrointestinal conditions
- Autoimmune and respiratory diseases
Patient Care & Monitoring
- Perform physical exams, collect medical histories, and monitor vitals
- Provide daily care to hospitalized patients (IV fluids, feeding tubes, medications)
- Assist with chronic disease management and long-term treatment plans
- Assist with imaging (ultrasound, digital radiology)
- Collect and process samples (blood, urine, fecal)
- Perform CBCs, chem panels, serology, and more
- Support endoscopic procedures (gastroscopy, bronchoscopy, cystoscopy)
- Administer specialty treatments (e.g., insulin, immunosuppressants, dialysis)
- Support patients undergoing minimally invasive diagnostics and procedures
- Monitor for changes in condition and communicate findings to the specialist
- Explain procedures, test results, and treatment options to clients
- Provide thorough discharge instructions and home-care guidance
- Promote understanding and compliance for chronic disease care
- Work directly with board-certified Internal Medicine specialists
- Document care in EMRs with accuracy and detail
- Participate in case discussions, rounds, and internal CE
Education & Certification:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Graduation from an accredited Veterinary Technician program desired, but not required..
- Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) or Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) certification preferred.
- Additional certifications in Internal Medicine, Emergency and Critical Care (ECC), or Anesthesia are a plus.
- 1-3 years of experience as an RVT (preferred) or Veterinary Assistant, with a preference for experience in internal medicine or specialty care environments.
- Familiarity with the diagnosis and treatment of chronic medical conditions such as kidney disease, endocrine disorders (e.g., hypothyroidism, diabetes), and gastrointestinal diseases (e.g., IBD, pancreatitis).
- Experience with diagnostic imaging (e.g., radiology, ultrasound), endoscopy, and advanced laboratory tests is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in bloodwork analysis, including:
- Chemistry panels
- Complete Blood Counts (CBCs)
- Serum diagnostics (e.g., thyroid panels, electrolytes)
- Skilled in venipuncture, catheter placement, nasogastric tube placement, and other procedures related to internal medicine.
- Experience with anesthesia monitoring, fluid therapy, and management of patients with chronic conditions.
- Excellent communication skills to clearly explain complex medical conditions and treatment options to clients.
- Empathy and emotional intelligence to support clients through difficult or long-term care situations.
- Ability to provide reassurance and guidance to pet owners while promoting compliance with treatment plans.
- Strong analytical skills to assess patient conditions and make quick, informed decisions in complex medical cases.
- High level of attention to detail in monitoring patients and tracking their responses to treatments.
- Ability to anticipate changes in patient conditions and adjust protocols as needed.
- Ability to handle physically demanding tasks, including lifting and positioning patients and assisting in various medical procedures.
- Comfortable working long shifts in a busy, fast-paced environment while maintaining focus and accuracy.
