The City of Aurora is accepting applications for the position of College Intern in the Division of Engineering.
Our Engineering Team Is Housed Within The Public Works Department And Is Comprised Of a Team Of Coordinators, Professional Engineers, Civil Engineers, And Techs. Assignments And Projects Will Vary Based On The Interests Of Each Intern. Our Team Of Interns Will Have The Opportunity To Explore Topics Including

- Construction (road and utility) – assist technicians with documentation, field measure quantities, observe contractor operations, learn how things are constructed, why it is important to inspect the work, things to look for onsite as an engineer
- Water main flushing program – help track progress of the flushing program, learn about the water distribution system and why flushing is important
- Sewer outfall inspections – review condition of sewer outfalls, identify illicit discharge, document conditions, learn about the importance of monitoring the condition of the water entering the Fox River
- Assist with traffic counts and studies – work with the City Traffic Engineer to respond to complaints regarding parking restrictions, stop sign installation, pedestrian concerns, and other misc. traffic engineering requests
- GIS data collection – gather field data to be loaded into the City GIS database for ongoing system accuracy improvements, learn about the City GIS system, what it is used for and how to use the collection equipment
- Drafting assistance - depending on experience level using AutoCAD, interns can assist with construction drawings
- Working towards a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
- Minimum of 3.0 GPA
- Experience in customer service, communication skills and eager to learn
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task and meet/exceed deadlines
- Basic level computer skills including Microsoft Excel and Word
