Summary

Spire is seeking a Damage Prevention Coordinator. This position will be responsible for investigating, documenting, analyzing, and resolving excavation damages and collecting damage payments from billable parties.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform on-site investigations of third-party damages to Company facilities
  • Perform on-site investigations of damages by Company crews to utility facilities owned by others
  • Document the results of investigations using written and photographic techniques
  • Access locate and damage databases and accurately and promptly enter data into damage database
  • Resolve damages within established parameters
  • Maintain relationships with contract locators working in the service area
  • Monitor quality of locates in designated high profile areas to prevent damages ahead of excavation
  • Maintain files for future reference and retrieval
  • Review, analyze, and make recommendations related to database criteria used in data collection
  • Suggest changes in construction practices, operating procedures, and billing
  • Provide advice to management on ways to reduce future damages
  • Participate in meetings with excavators, utility personnel, public officials, members of the general public, and other interested parties to resolve damage related matters affecting the Company
  • Monitor/inspect activities of directional boring excavators working around Company facilities
  • Respond to excavator inquiries and perform follow-up collection efforts on billable damages
  • Provide expert support in claims/collection cases as needed
  • All other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities

Required Education (certifications, licenses)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, related technical area or equivalent experience
  • Valid driver’s license

Required Knowledge, Skill And Abilities

  • 2 years of relevant operations, construction, inspection, investigation, or claims experience
  • Utility locate experience preferred
  • Ability to demonstrate and master the core competencies applicable for this role within the organization

  • Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, PSC regulations and other state and local codes relative to field operations
  • Communication and presentation skills including proficient use of Microsoft Office Word and PowerPoint
  • Ability to handle confidential information in a discrete manner

Physical demands, environment and schedule

  • Typically, Monday through Friday
  • A combination of normal office conditions, outdoors exposed to all weather conditions and in areas exposed to loud audible noises
