The Detroit Pistons are looking for a driven, people-focused Business Development Manager to help lead, train, and develop our next generation of sales talent. Working closely with the Director of Business Development, this leader will play a critical role in managing a team of 10–12 entry-level sellers focused on full-season, partial plan, and premium ticket sales.

Responsibilities

Sales Leadership & Pipeline Management

  • Support the Director of Business Development in leading a team of 10–12 Business Development Representatives (BDRs) focused on new ticket sales across full-season, partial plans, premium products, and group sales.
  • Oversee daily sales activity and pipeline management, ensuring consistent progress toward revenue and activity goals.
  • Lead daily huddles, weekly one-on-ones, and team meetings focused on performance optimization, pipeline movement, and best practices.
  • Develop and implement activity tracking systems, reporting tools, and KPI dashboards to measure and drive team success.

Training, Coaching & Development

  • Serve as a hands-on coach, delivering structured onboarding, ongoing training sessions, and professional development programming.
  • Teach and reinforce sales fundamentals — including prospecting, qualifying leads, needs-based selling, objection handling, and closing.
  • Conduct regular call coaching, role plays, and feedback sessions to accelerate skill development and elevate overall team performance.
  • Identify high-potential sellers and help prepare them for future Account Executive or leadership opportunities within the organization.

Sales Strategy & Collaboration

  • Partner with the Director of Business Development and senior sales leadership to execute sales campaigns and go-to-market strategies.
  • Work cross-functionally with Marketing, Business Intelligence, and Ticket Operations to ensure lead quality, campaign effectiveness, and pipeline alignment.
  • Contribute ideas for process improvements, lead-generation strategies, and technology enhancements to optimize team performance.
  • Culture & Team Building
  • Foster a positive, high-energy sales environment built on accountability, collaboration, and professional growth.
  • Champion the Pistons’ organizational pillars — Fans, Brand, Careers, Community, and Revenue — and ensure they are reflected in daily team behaviors.
  • Serve as a visible, accessible leader and resource to all BDRs, helping them build confidence, resilience, and sales excellence.
  • Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 4+ years of experience in ticket sales or sports business, with a track record of success in outbound sales and/or leadership.
  • Previous experience mentoring, coaching, or managing sales talent strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of CRM systems (Salesforce, Dynamics) and sales pipeline management best practices.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Passion for talent development, team building, and creating a positive, performance-driven culture.
  • Self-starter with strong organizational skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-energy environment.
