LOCATION: Teen Hype Youth Development Program - Detroit, MI 48207

POSITION SUMMARY: Are you a person that enjoys working with young people to help them develop critical life skills while empowering them to become transformative leaders in their communities, then the Teen Hype Adolescent Specialist position offered by SEMHA may be the job for you.

The Adolescent Specialist holds the privilege of walking alongside young people during their most transformative years. This role is a sacred trust-serving as a catalyst for growth, a champion of potential, and a bridge-builder between youth and their brightest futures. Through evidence based programming and heartfelt connection, the Adolescent Specialist creates spaces where middle and high school students discover their power, develop essential life skills, and emerge as confident leaders ready to transform their communities.

The Adolescent Specialist At Teen Hype Will

  • Design and deliver transformative skill-building experiences using interactive methodologies including arts integration, role-playing, and an evidence-based curriculum.
  • Create brave spaces for youth to explore critical topics: substance abuse prevention, healthy relationships, HIV/STD prevention, emotional intelligence, conflict resolution, and leadership development
  • Facilitate both in-school and after-school programming that ignites curiosity and builds resilience
  • Champion summer programming initiatives that provide continuous support and growth Opportunities.
  • Coordinate schedules, resources, and logistics to maximize youth engagement and impact
  • Maintain program documentation that tells the story of youth transformation
  • Work with Communications to collect stories to accompany data and to share impact
  • Build collaborative relationships with schools, agencies, and community partners
  • Network strategically to create opportunities and resources for youth actively participate in team meetings, trainings, and professional growth opportunities
  • Mentor new team members and share knowledge generously

Required Skills & Experience

Education & Certifications:

  • Associate's degree or equivalent required (bachelor's preferred)
  • Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS) through Michigan Certification Board of Addiction
  • CPR and First Aide Certification required
  • Professionals (MCBAP) within 2 years of hire
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of meaningful experience working with youth/adolescents
  • Demonstrated success in group facilitation and youth engagement
  • Experience with prevention programming preferred

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in data entry and database management
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities
  • Comfort with Microsoft Office Suite and virtual platforms

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in youth development, social work, psychology, or related field
  • Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES)
  • Experience

Salary: $18 - $24 hourly (based on experience and qualifications)
