Job Title: Applications Engineer, 5-Axis
Department: Sales/Marketing
FLSA Status: Exempt
Summary
Serves as a resource on technical expertise to their application within the department. Conducts demonstrations, applications tests/studies on behalf of customer/sales. Provides advanced technical support/feedback to sales team members, Laser Applications Manager, and Product Manager.
Essential Functions

Valid Driver’s License with no more than two (2) points on a driving record within a three (3) year period

Analyze and solve problems, use math and mathematical reasoning; observe and interpret situations; learn and apply new information or new skills; work under imposed manufacturing deadlines; interact with staff and other organizations; and frequently deal with dissatisfied or quarrelsome individuals.
Working Conditions

The incumbent works primarily in a manufacturing facility where the noise level may be moderate to loud. May occasionally work in an office environment.
The position requires approximately up to 50% travel. Travel may be domestic or international as required.
This position is not a remote position.

This position reports directly to the Applications Manager, Lasertube, Press Brake and Flat Sheet, and indirectly to the Product Manager.

- Establish oneself as a subject matter expert in their related field.
- Analyze customer drawings to determine the feasibility of an application utilizing BLM GROUP’s product offerings.
- Assist or lead in the development of sales tools for new features or machines.
- Maintain par levels of demonstration materials and order additional material when necessary.
- Conduct machine- and/or software-related training, demos, and correct/troubleshoot any applications or other issues for customers at the BLM GROUP USA facility or at the customer’s facility as required.
- Determine if customer concerns are machine related or applications based, correct machine/service-related issues in addition to application when needed.
- Travel to customer facilities as needed to conduct run-off acceptance tests.
- Assist or lead in the development of 5-axis product machine/software demonstration parts/strategy.
- Provide machine or software presentations at various trade shows or expos.
- Perform time studies/feasibility requests.
- Provide technical expertise and support to other Applications Engineers, Product Managers, or Sales team members working within the department.
- Provide any additional assistance within the company to aid with project specifications and completion.
- Understand technical issues to the point of being able to aid others within the Applications department with recommendations and/or referring the matter to a subject expert.
- Maintain a positive rapport, professional appearance, and business relationships with customers by providing outstanding customer service.
- Cooperation with external fixture companies for design/engineering of 5-Axis fixtures.
- Travel to Italy 1-2 times per year to have continual training in software and hardware of BLM GROUP products.
- Travel up to 50% as needed by management.
- Commitment to this position for a timeframe of 3 - 5 years.
- Work overtime as necessary to complete workload as needed by management.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
- Associate’s degree in a Technical field. Prior experience or equivalent military training may be substituted for a degree.
- At least three (3) years of 5-Axis laser/welding experience required.

Knowledge, Skills, And Other Abilities
- Thorough understanding of CAD/CAM software and how they apply to specific machine and part applications
- Understanding of reading part drawings
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of statistical evaluations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
- Able to effectively use the Internet
- Highly organized
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must be able to work effectively with minimal supervision
- Must have excellent time management skills
- Able to effectively work with all levels of team members and all types of customer personalities
- Understanding of laser technology/parameters and ability to adjust them
- Must have mechanical aptitude/experience
- General office equipment, including computers, printers, fax machines and telephones.
- Large format CNC machines
- Generalized tools for troubleshooting large format machinery
- Bridge Crane
- Forklift
