St. Francis International School in Silver Spring is hiring a full-time English Learner Specialist for the 2025-26 school year.
The position would work as with the Resource Coordinator to identify and support students in English language acquisition as it relates to school success.
This is a full-time (10 month) position with excellent benefits and competitive salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Principal Responsibilities
- Work toward earning ESOL teaching certification or equivalent within 5 years of date of hire
- Work with resource coordinator to identify students who would benefit from additional English language supports using data from the TELL assessment
- Plan and facilitate small group instruction to provide intensive English language instruction for limited English proficiency students
- Collaborate with grade level teachers to provide push-in support for ELL student learning
- Articulate with administrators, counselors, teachers and other school staff about individual limited English proficiency students and their needs.
- Conduct assessments and track student progress longitudinally
- Facilitate MCPS documentation and screening process for identified students, including evaluation meetings, observations and reviewing student learning plans
- Regularly communicate with families of identified students regarding progress in English language acquisition and academic performance
- Identify and conduct professional development in English language teaching and acquisition
- Regularly attend faculty and grade level meetings and answer questions about particular students as needed
- Perform collateral duties (lunch and recess proctor, morning dropoff, afternoon pickup) as assigned
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in elementary education or literacy education with a focus in English language acquisition (ESOL)
- Knowledge of current theory in English language acquisition
- Openness to further professional development
