Plant Manager – Key Responsibilities & Qualifications

As Plant Manager, you will serve as the senior site leader with full responsibility for safety, production, quality, talent development, and cost controls. You will provide vision and strategic direction while ensuring operational excellence through effective delegation, lean practices, and continuous improvement. You’ll lead a unionized workforce, motivate a diverse team, and promote a culture of accountability, engagement, and results.
Core Responsibilities:
- Lead all aspects of plant operations including safety, quality, productivity, and cost through strong leadership and mentoring.
- Direct department managers and oversee planning, production, and personnel to meet business objectives.
- Champion lean manufacturing and Six Sigma initiatives to drive process efficiency and cost savings.
- Develop and manage operating and capital budgets while ensuring fiscal discipline.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, environmental, and corporate standards.
- Cultivate a pipeline of talent through effective recruiting, training, performance management, and succession planning.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams in a manufacturing environment with strong interpersonal influence.
- Deep knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma principles.
- Strategic thinker with an execution mindset; adept at diagnosing problems and delivering sustainable solutions.
- Inspirational leader who fosters open communication, team engagement, and cultural alignment.
- Experience managing in a unionized environment and building collaborative labor relations.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering preferred.
