About The Housing Collective

The Housing Collective is a Connecticut-based nonprofit organization working to end homelessness and create equitable access to safe, affordable housing for all. We serve as a backbone organization for coordinated housing and homelessness systems across the state. Our core initiatives—Opening Doors, Centers for Housing Opportunity, and the Housing Innovation Lab—are rooted in collective impact, racial equity, and resident-centered systems change.

Position Overview

The Communications Associate is an entry-level role designed to expand the capacity of the Housing Collective’s Communications team. This full-time position reports directly to the Senior Communications Manager and provides day-to-day support in implementing a wide range of communications strategies, including digital media, content creation, internal coordination, and partner outreach. The ideal candidate is a strong writer, highly organized, and eager to build a career in strategic communications and social impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support execution of the Housing Collective’s communications strategy across all platforms.
  • Draft and edit digital content including newsletters, website updates, blog posts, and social media.
  • Assist in managing the organization’s social media and email marketing calendars.
  • Track press mentions, media coverage, and digital performance metrics.
  • Support logistics and promotion for webinars, public events, and campaigns.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and partners to gather and share impact stories.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as tracking communications deadlines, updating project plans, and supporting internal communications systems.
  • Uphold The Housing Collective’s brand standards and messaging framework.

Qualifications

  • Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Comfort with digital tools such as Google Workspace, Constant Contact, Canva, and social media platforms.
  • Demonstrated interest in communications, nonprofit work, housing justice, or social impact.
  • Experience with media, storytelling, or community engagement is a plus.
  • Commitment to racial equity, inclusion, and The Housing Collective’s mission.

Compensation & Benefits

This is a full-time, non-exempt position with a starting salary range of $50,000–$55,000 annually, commensurate with experience. We share the full range for transparency and to reflect potential growth over time; most new hires start below the maximum.
