Full-time, 40 hours per week position available, with hybrid option.


Description of Duties: 

The Controller is responsible for overseeing SPIE’s financial operations, ensuring accuracy in accounting, compliance with regulatory standards, and strategic financial planning. This role leads the accounting team, manages budgeting and forecasting processes, prepares financial statements, and supports executive leadership with data-driven insights. The Controller will also play a key role in optimizing financial systems and internal controls to support organizational growth and sustainability.


Education & Experience Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred)
  • Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory responsibilities
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and budgeting
  • Experience with nonprofit financial management is a plus
  • Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems


Compensation and Benefits package includes:

  • Competitive wages, annual discretionary bonus. Pay Range $110,107 to $159,650
  • Medical, dental & vision benefits provided (100% employer paid premium for the employee, 75% employer paid premium for the dependents).
  • Defined retirement contribution: SPIE provides an automatic 5% contribution PLUS SPIE offers UP to 5% matching contributions and 25% vesting each year, 100% vested after 4 years.

Location: Physical work location in Bellingham, WA. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. The employer will not sponsor applicants for work visas.
