Under the general supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Natural Resources, the Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Natural Resources assists in the development and implementation of programs that provide for the protection, management and enhancement of the natural resources of the State. In addition, the Assistant Deputy Commissioner plays a key role in the administration of operational functions of the natural resources divisions. Specific functions include:
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and 7 years of relevant experience.

Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Travel may be required.
Overtime may be required.
Overnight travel may be required.
Weekends and holidays may be required.
Must be available for emergency response.
Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies.

Duties Description
Under the general supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Natural Resources, the Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Natural Resources assists in the development and implementation of programs that provide for the protection, management and enhancement of the natural resources of the State. In addition, the Assistant Deputy Commissioner plays a key role in the administration of operational functions of the natural resources divisions. Specific functions include:
- Responsible to the Deputy Commissioner of Natural Resources for assisting in the execution of the State’s natural resources conservation and development programs and policies.
- Assists management of the natural resources divisions of Lands & Forests; Fish and Wildlife; Marine Resources; Minerals Resources; and the Office of Outdoor Recreation.
- Coordinates discussions about natural resources policies externally, within the Department, and with other State Agencies.
- Represents the Department and the State as requested by the Deputy Commissioner at conferences, professional and administrative meetings and other occasions as appropriate.
- Assures coordination of natural resource programs among natural resource divisions and other Department divisions and programs regionally and centrally.
- Maintains communications with key stakeholders.
- Assists with the development of requests for fiscal and personnel resources in natural resource programs to reflect changing program needs, priorities and mandates.
- Assists in the resolution of major problems that cannot be resolved at lower levels in the organization structure and finds solutions to issues with other state agencies.
- Manages high priority projects as identified by the Deputy Commissioner.
