In a globally growing healthcare market, we are looking for a full-time Grinding Set-Up Technician to strengthen our team in Memphis, TN.

The Grinding Set-Up Technician is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining precision grinding equipment used in the manufacturing of medical device components. This role ensures that machines are correctly configured, parts are manufactured to exact specifications, and all activities are performed in compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Passion:
    • Set up and operate grinding machines (e.g., CNC grinders, Rollomatic, centerless, surface, or cylindrical grinders) to produce high quality medical device components
    • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and process specifications
    • Perform machine adjustments, wheel changes, dressing, and offsets to maintain tight tolerances
    • Monitor machine performance and part quality throughout production runs
    • Support continuous improvement initiatives, including lean manufacturing and process optimization
  • Trustworthiness:
    • Inspect parts using precision measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, optical, comparators, gauges, etc.) to ensure compliance with specifications
    • Accurately complete production documentation in compliance with FDA and ISO 13485 requirements
    • Follow GMP and adhere to cleanroom and safety protocols
    • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment, adhering to all safety guidelines
  • Drive Resutls:
    • Troubleshoot equipment, identify problems, and work with maintenance as needed to minimize downtime
    • Support continuous improvement initiatives, including lean manufacturing and process optimization
  • Collaboration:
    • Train and assist other technicians or operators as required.
    • Work with maintenance as needed to minimize downtime
    • Communicate effectively through documentation and team coordination
    • Proven ability to mentor and collaborate
  • Other duties as assigned
Skills

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with ability to set up and adjust complex machinery.
  • Proficiency in reading technical drawings and using precision measuring instruments.
  • Knowledge of grinding processes, wheel selection, and dressing techniques.
  • Ability to maintain focus and accuracy in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment.
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Suite application) for production reporting and quality documentation.
  • Knowledge in GMP and ISO is a plus

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical/vocational training preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of CNC set-up and precision grinding experience, preferably in the medical device or other highly regulated industry.
  • Familiarity with medical device quality systems (FDA, ISO 13485) preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 30 lbs.
  • Ability to work with small precision parts under magnification as needed.
  • Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination.

Working Conditions

  • Manufacturing environment with exposure to grinding equipment, coolants, and noise.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required (safety glasses, gloves, etc.).
  • May require occasional overtime and weekend work based on production demands.

This position reports into the Value Stream Supervisor
