The Greater Raleigh area is one of the fastest growing markets in the United States and the Carolina Hurricanes have been one of the most successful teams in the NHL since current ownership gained control in 2018. The Hurricanes are seeking to fill the newly created position of Chief Operating Officer (“COO”) to capitalize on these advantages and drive new revenue growth. Reporting directly to the CEO, the COO will be tasked with overseeing multiple departments to push revenue growth through ensuring operational efficiency, resource management and creative thinking. The COO will also lead and drive best in class performance in marketing, in-game entertainment and production and community relations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Revenue Leadership: Lead and oversee the day-to-day operations of key revenue-generating business units of the Carolina Hurricanes and Lenovo Center including food and beverage, parking and merchandise sales.
  • Arena Operations: Lead and support the Lenovo Center General Manager, Arena Programming and Marketing and facilities teams to create efficiencies and new revenue generating opportunities.
  • Marketing: Lead and support the existing marketing team and coordinate efforts with other departments to drive interest in the Hurricanes and revenue growth.
  • Game Production and Entertainment: Lead and support the Game Production and Entertainment department to pursue best in class fan experience.
  • Event Execution: Ensure seamless execution of hockey games, basketball games and concerts and other Lenovo Center events.
  • Marquee Events: Lead and oversee planning and execution of key marquee NHL events hosted in Raleigh.
  • Community Relations: Provide support to the Carolina Hurricanes Foundation and lead efforts to expand grass roots community involvement.
  • Owner/Executive Team: Collaborate closely with the owner and executive management to align strategies, support their strategic direction and ensure execution.
  • Team development and leadership: Focus on building top talent through internal training and external hires when needed.
  • Goal Setting: Set clear, attainably aggressive revenue targets while working closely with department leaders to attain those goals.
  • Budgets: Oversee the budgets for several key departments.
  • Work collaboratively with the Ticket Sales, Corporate Partnerships and Business Intelligence teams to drive revenue.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of operating and revenue leadership experience in sports, entertainment, or similar business.
  • Proven track record of as an operator and revenue generator at a high level.
  • Experience building and leading cross-functional teams with the unified mission of delivering for clients while driving revenue.
  • Competitive – a drive to set the highest standard possible.
  • Must pass a criminal background check
