Purpose of Job

Responsible driving technical excellence in capital projects across all the sites in International Chemicals. This role is pivotal in facilitating the alignment of site processes and procedures with Sasol Global Standards for Capital Project Execution. This position is essential for standardizing processes, tools and templates across all sites in International Chemicals Technical Services, sharing and implementing best practices, and optimizing processes to enhance the efficiency of capital projects.

Key Accountabilities

Process Alignment

  • Facilitate the alignment of site-specific processes and procedures with the company’s global Capital Project Execution standards and develop a single guideline or procedure for IC.
  • Conduct regular reviews and assessments to ensure site adherence to established IC guideline and procedures.


Best practices:

  • Identify, share, and implement best practices and lessons learnt across the International Chemicals Technical Services organization to drive consistency and quality in capital projects.
  • Ensure the use of the Lessons Learned app to ensure learnings are shared across sites.
  • Encourage cross site collaboration and communication.


Standardization and Development:

  • Facilitate the development, implementation and maintenance of standardized processes, tools, and templates across all sites to ensure uniformity and consistency.
  • Collaborate with site teams, project managers, and other stakeholders to customize and adapt standards where necessary without compromising global consistency.
  • Standardize the capital project risk management processes and governance standards across all sites.
  • Train technical services personnel on use of standardized processes, tools and platforms.


Continuous improvement:

  • Analyze current processes to identify area of improvement and optimization.
  • Identify and together with site specific Technical Services capital project team develop and implement strategies to enhance efficiency, cost effectiveness and quality of capital projects.
  • Interact and collaborate with IC Operations OE team to evaluate and improve on cross functional business processes that extend outside of Technical Services.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of implemented changes and make necessary adjustments.
  • Stay updated with latest industry trends and technologies, integrating relevant advancements into the organization.
  • Solicit feedback from all sites to identify areas of further improvement.


Reporting and Documentation:

  • Design and implement tools and solutions that streamline capital project performance tracking and reporting.
  • Develop standardized reports, including Key performance indicators, to be used across all sites related to capital projects. Consolidate site reports into overall IC Chemicals Capital Project Management reports.


Technical Services support

  • Facilitate and/or participate in Value Assurance reviews for larger capital projects prior to final investment decision.


Capital Projects Center of Excellence

  • Establish and lead Center of Excellence for Capital Projects, serving as a central resource for best practices, training and support.
  • Contribute toward the development of the skills/training competency matrix for Capital execution teams to enhance the skills and knowledge of site personnel involved in project activities.


Formal Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Project Management, or a related field.
  • Professional certifications related to project management (e.g., PMP), a plus.


Working Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in capital project management.
  • Strong knowledge of project management methodologies and tools.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing standardized processes and procedures across multiple sites.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross functional teams.
