Job Title: Family Assistance Program Worker

Unit/Service: Family Assistance Program

Reports To: Family Assistance Program Supervisor

Position Summary: Within the framework of the agency’s mission, policies, procedures and resources, the Family Assistance Program Worker is responsible for completing all tasks related to assisting families and ensuring the safety of children in compliance with current State of Michigan Licensing Rules for Child Placing Agencies, contractual, or grant obligations, and any additional applicable accreditation standards relevant to the agency.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred in Social Work or related field and shall be familiar with and adhere to the laws and rules which apply to the MDHHS, or which have been promulgated by the MDHHS regarding client confidentiality.
  • Ability to assist families with meeting their basic needs and a commitment to ensuring the safety of children.
  • The Family Assistance Worker shall have the ability to manage crisis and support clients in solutions/decision making.
  • The Family Assistance Worker shall have knowledge of family systems and demonstrate ability to relate to and engage with children and families.
  • An understanding and commitment to the strength based and solution focused models, as well as intervention strategies are essential.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including non-traditional hours and weekends.
  • The Family Assistance Worker shall have knowledge of community resources.

Major Responsibilities

  • Provide a flexible work schedule to meet the needs of referred clients during non-traditional hours, delivering direct services in the client’s home and/or community.
  • For Parenting Time Support cases, provide supervised parenting time allowing the child to interact with their parents in a safe environment while promoting a healthy relationship.
  • Participate in required initial and ongoing training provided Orchards Children’s Services or a designee.
  • Family Assistance Program worker will follow the agency’s 24/7 availability policy.
  • For direct assistance cases, provide goal-directed services to families, services may involve modeling, demonstrations, and supervision in any of the following areas: Child Nurturing, Home Management, Nutrition, and Support.
  • Compliance with program contract and guidelines, maintain written documentation and case files within expected time frame.
  • Develop supportive relationship with families on caseload.
  • Develop supportive relationships with collaborative partners, including MDHHS and all referring sources.
  • Report any conditions or acts which are of a current or potential danger to the children in the case to MDHHS immediately. Assess risk and aid the family in developing a behaviorally specific safety plan when necessary.
  • Knowledge of and teaching parenting skills, assessing, and teaching budgeting skills.
  • Referring and linking the family with needed concrete services and follow-up services when necessary.
  • Assisting the family with accessing transportation and/or transporting the family.
  • Participate in weekly individual supervision and team meetings.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias.
