Assistant Underwriter

SageSure

Date: 13 hours ago
City: Houston, TX
Contract type: Full time
Overview:

SageSure is a managing general underwriter leader and insurance technology innovator serving disaster-prone areas. That means we sell insurance through our proprietary technology platform in places other insurance companies won't do business. Historically, the SageSure product offerings were geared towards preferred risks and rated based on tight guidelines and a rigorous inspection review process. Because of these top tier underwriting practices, many homes are declined by the SageSure Signature product suite.

SageSure Expanded Markets is the newest program being added, bringing in additional capacity for homes that might not meet the underwriting guidelines. The capacity sources in this program include but are not limited to Excess & Surplus lines carriers, high-value home carriers, and specialty product carriers such as mobile home and flood.

What you'd be doing:

  • Service the Expanded Markets book of business under the direct supervision of underwriters
  • Manage incoming calls, chats and emails from agents direct or SageSure Customer Service Representatives
  • Develop a basic understanding of Expanded Markets carrier guidelines and be able to effectively answer basic questions fielded from agents
  • Follow up with inspection companies in regards to inspection statuses/completion
  • Aid Associate Underwriter in reviewing inspections for Expanded Markets policies to confirm adherence to guidelines and proper rating/forms for the risk exposure. Also, processing any endorsements, correspondence or follow ups needed as a result of inspection findings.
  • Aid agency partners in the processing of binding or post-bind tasks including but not limited to binding a policy, processing endorsements or cancellations, or other items as needed.
  • Maintain positive agency relationships and serve as resource to agency partners by answering agency calls and helping with questions about Agent Portal or carrier offerings.
  • Mentor and train Policy Services or other SageSure personnel on Expanded Markets processes as needed

We're looking for someone who has:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum two (2) years of Personal Lines Excess & Surplus Lines Underwriting support experience
  • Must have ability to use company automation including, but not limited to, Windows, Word, Excel & company systems
  • Ability to work in a team environment essential
  • Good written and verbal skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in sales and marketing
  • Proven organization skills and ability with a strong attention to detail
  • Interest in continued education and professional development to obtain full underwriting authority
  • Insurance Property and Casualty license required

Highly preferred candidates also have:

  • Prior Customer Service experience
  • A desire to enhance skills through obtaining professional designations like CPCU
