The Payroll Auditor I will perform compliance audits of employer contributions in accordance with approved guidelines and policies. The auditor will work with the employer and the local union to resolve audit issues and assist the Trustees in fulfilling their fiduciary responsibilities to safeguard the assets. This position supports, as needed, the education audit required for first-time employers following the Payroll Audit Procedures Manual.

Essential Job Functions And Duties

The Payroll Auditor I’s responsibilities and duties are based on the below functional areas:

Engagement Planning

  • Review terms of the CBA
  • Review previous audit file and identify potential issues
  • Communicate with employers, local unions, and other Fund departments the audit engagement
  • Set up the accumulation forms for fieldwork
  • Set up the test of reported contributions work paper
  • Determine if audit is candidate for a limited or a waived scope audit
  • Complete all pre-audit work papers and correspondence in compliance with the Audit Program

Audit Performance Compliance

  • Perform detail verification and analysis of employer records
  • Investigate any unreasonable areas that have been identified, and expand of audit if necessary
  • Document results and conclusions
  • Prepare a report of findings
  • Discuss areas of error and improvement with employers

Evaluate and Resolve Disputes

  • Educate employer on correct reporting procedures and documents required to be maintained
  • Identify legal issues and prepare and submit requests for legal opinions
  • Work with employers and local unions to achieve resolution of audit issues

Essential Qualifications

  • 0 ~ 2 years of related experience minimum
  • Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS) and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Associate’s degree in Accounting or related field or equivalent work experience
  • The ability to manage competing deadlines and multiple projects, with excellent organizational skills
  • Intermediate level of MS Office skills and MS Excel skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills; Be a positive and professional representation of the Fund while interacting with all levels of employees and management
  • Exemplifies the Fund’s values in leading and fostering a respectful, trusting, and engaged culture of inclusion and engagement

Salary range for this position: Salary $70,500 - $88,200. Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to: relevant experience, qualifications, expertise, certifications, licenses, education or equivalent work experience, time in role, peer and market data, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location.

Work Schedule (may vary to meet business needs): Monday~Friday, 7.5 hours per day (37.5 hours per week) as a remote employee, 8 – 4pm (PT). We are hiring one in-state remote employee and one out-of-state remote employee (preferably West Coast).
