SUMMARY: Work with a multidisciplinary team of developmental and clinical psychologists who conduct longitudinal, developmental, psychological research with children and families and who offer community-based consultation services as well as conduct program evaluation of early childhood interventions. Under the general supervision of the Principal Investigator of Research on children’s stress and trauma, assist in the acquisition and analysis of participant information for clinical research projects. Interview participants in community settings to gather information. Prepare and maintain study record. Enter data and achieve inter-rater reliability to code observational assessment of parent and child behavior. Opportunities to participate in presentations and posters may be available. Assist with coordination of clinical activities. Recruit participants from community settings. Assist in identification and follow-up of participants meeting criteria for inclusion in clinical research studies. Ensure protocol eligibility requirements are met. Establish and/or maintain study record for each participant. Interview participant and/or family to explain nature of study. Elicit cooperation and gather information to complete study. Facilitate obtaining signed consent forms. May schedule participant interview to complete documentation. According to established protocol, may administer standardized and non-standardized research observations and assessments. May review medical records to abstract information necessary to complete forms. May request and follow-up on missing data such as questionnaires and the like. Monitor adherence to protocol. Follow-up with participant to correct or complete documentation. In collaboration with the Data Specialist and/or Principal Investigator, collect and organize participant data into an appropriate format to facilitate data entry and analysis. Enter study information into database. May coordinate activities of others assigned to research projects to interview participants, to complete forms, or to perform data entry duties. Review literature pertaining to research being conducted in order to better understand project and to gather relevant information. May conduct classroom assessments at local child care sites. May assist with coordination of early childhood clinical services. May participate in data collection at a research summer camp. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: BASIC KNOWLEDGE: Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to interact with participants, prospective patients, and community partners with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns. REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Behavioral Sciences or related area, including courses in research methodologies and statistics. Must have valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle to commute to and from home visits throughout the state of Rhode Island and neighboring areas. Mileage will be reimbursed. Availability to regularly work some evenings and Saturdays is required. Minimum of six months of undergraduate or post-graduate research experience. Experience with children and/or home visiting preferred. Spanish-speaking preferred but not required. INDEPENDENT ACTION: Performs independently within department policies and practices. Refers specific complex problems to supervisor where clarification of departmental policies and procedures may be required. Works collaboratively and flexibly with a commitment to team effort. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None.
