HEALTH SERVICES ASSISTANT
DEFINITION
Under general supervision, assist school nurse in the augmentation and extension of the health services program by performing routine health-related duties.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist school nurse in the planning, scheduling, and advertising of health services programs. Maintain contact with parents, students and staff by mail, telephone, or personal contact. May independently administer routine physical measurement tests and maintain record files. Answers routine questions regarding available health services and assists in referrals to proper agencies; does related work as required. Care for ill students and administers first aid in the absence of the nurse; re-admits students; post absences to apportionment cards; type memos, lists, reports, forms and correspondence to parents and agencies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to:
Work with students, teachers, parents, and co-workers; speak, read, and write Spanish and English; establish and maintain communications with community and professional staff; type 40 words per minute.
Experience:
One year experience working with students or community organizations; one year of typing and general clerical duties.
Education:
Graduation from high school or successful completion of G.E.D. test.
Other:
Possess and maintain a valid California Operator’s License; possess or acquire a Red Cross First Aid Certificate.
