Position Summary: We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Accountant to join our finance team at a leading flooring distribution company. This role requires deep expertise in sales and property tax compliance, coupled with the ability to collaborate closely with corporate tax teams on income tax matters and strategic planning. The ideal candidate will bring a strong accounting foundation, sharp attention to detail, and the ability to operate confidently in a multi-state environment. This role is a key contributor in our accounting department, the Senior Accountant will ensure timely and accurate reporting, drive tax compliance across all distribution locations, and act as the primary tax liaison between operations and corporate finance. This position plays a critical role in supporting our growth, maintaining compliance, and optimizing our tax position.


Essential Duties:

Accounting & Financial Reporting:

  • Perform monthly close activities including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis
  • Run monthly capitalization and depreciation and maintain fixed asset schedules
  • Prepare weekly cash forecast
  • Prepare and distribute daily cash and payment report
  • Assist in audit preparation and provide requested schedules/documentation


Sales & Property Tax Compliance:

  • Reconcile multi-state and Canadian sales and use tax returns ensuring accurate reporting based on current nexus requirements
  • Prepare and upload consumer use tax & sales tax for credit card convenience fees
  • Research and resolve sales tax notices
  • Manage property tax compliance for all owned or leased locations, including filings, assessments, appeals, and payment coordination
  • Act as the main point of contact between the company and the 3rd party corporate tax team
  • Provide accurate and timely data and analysis for income tax provisions, audit support, and tax planning initiatives
  • Communicate tax-related developments, risks, and strategies to Finance leadership
  • Support corporate initiatives such as tax restructuring, credit utilization, and automation projects


Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with human resources and operations teams to understand location changes and ensure tax implications are proactively managed
  • Partner with AP and procurement teams to ensure tax coding and documentation compliance
  • Support ad hoc analysis for new distribution center openings, relocations, or property divestitures


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance;
  • 4+ years of relevant accounting experience, with a focus on sales and/or property tax
  • Experience in retail, property management, real estate, or multi-location environments is preferred
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and multi-jurisdictional tax requirements
  • Proficiency in Excel and experience with ERP systems (NetSuite, Oracle, SAP, etc.)
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills


Minimum Requirements:

  • Detail-oriented and comfortable working with complex, multi-state data
  • Strong communicator with the ability to simplify tax matters for non-finance stakeholders
  • Proactive and curious, with a mindset for process improvement and compliance
  • Comfortable working independently while collaborating across functions


Physical Demands and Work Environment: This position entails prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer (up to 8 hours/day) in a standard office work professional, fast paced environment driven by results and deadlines.

  • Ability to use hands and fingers to operate office equipment (keyboard, mouse, calculator, etc.)
  • Occasional lifting of files, paperwork, or office supplies (up to 15 lbs)
  • Visual acuity to read and interpret data on paper and computer screens
  • May require occasional travel to company offices, property sites, or external tax meetings (less than 10%)
  • Standard office environment with typical business hours (Monday–Friday)
  • May be remote/hybrid or on-site, depending on company policy and location
  • Role may require occasional flexibility in hours to meet reporting deadlines or during audit/tax season
  • Collaborative setting that involves cross-departmental communication (Finance, Human Resources, Operations)
