Copyright Assistant
Kobalt Music

The Role
We are looking for a detail-oriented, curious, and enthusiastic individual to join Kobalt Music’s Copyright team in Nashville. As a Copyright Assistant, you will play a key support role in helping ensure our clients are accurately represented and ultimately paid when their songs are used—on radio, TV, or digital platforms.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone early in their music industry career who is eager to learn about music publishing, copyright, and the inner workings of global collection societies. You'll be joining a collaborative, fast-paced team where curiosity, precision, and a growth mindset are highly valued.
What You’ll Do
- Assist with copyright registration tasks for songs and agreements represented by Kobalt
- Help gather, review, and input metadata to ensure songs are properly matched and monetized
- Support the team in managing queries from collection societies and sub-publishers
- Perform data checks and track the status of ongoing registrations and claims
- Provide general administrative and operational support to the Copyright team
- Collaborate with colleagues to identify and escalate issues for resolution
What You’ll Bring
Preferred:
- A strong interest in music publishing, copyright, or the business side of the music industry
- Strong attention to detail and a desire to work in a data-driven environment
- Eagerness to learn new systems, tools, and processes—training will be provided
- Good organizational and time management skills, with the ability to juggle tasks and meet deadlines
- Clear communication skills and a collaborative mindset
- Proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets is helpful; familiarity with collection society databases is a plus
Additional Skills That Could Add Value:
- Any additional language skills or international experience is welcomed but not required
What Success Looks Like
By Month 3: You will have learned how to navigate all internal systems and be able to independently find information regarding our rights around the globe. You will participate in projects that emphasize the importance of accurate registrations in order to generate revenues, including researching global society databases.
By Month 6: You will be actively involved in responding to queries about the Kobalt catalog from other companies across the industry. You will have successfully learned basic CWR terminology and understand the end-to-end process flow of song registrations.
By Year 1: Your responsibilities will have expanded beyond basic research and you are now able to proactively solve problems as it pertains to registrations and conflicts. You will contribute to process improvement and refinement in order to continually improve our service levels.
Key Behaviour for Success:
Collaboration & Teamwork
You’ll actively participate in team activities, support cross-functional workflows, and share information openly with colleagues in Legal, Royalties, Creative, and beyond. Your collaborative approach will help resolve issues constructively and keep projects moving efficiently.
