Position Description:

Apex Systems is seeking a motivated and qualified, Top-Secret-cleared Systems Administrator for a federal client in Omaha, NE. The systems administrator is responsible for providing technical support and troubleshooting for a range of systems, ensuring compliance with DoD 8570.01-M standards. The role involves supporting end-users, managing user accounts, maintaining endpoint devices, and performing basic network and system maintenance under the supervision of senior administrators.

Primary Responsibilities:

Identity & Account Management

  • Technical Support and User Account Management :
  • Create, modify, and delete user accounts.
  • Reset user passwords and lock/unlock user accounts.
  • Modify user account privileges as per security guidelines.
  • Create and manage e-mail group mailboxes.
  • Respond promptly to customer inquiries regarding account issues.
  • Documentation :
  • Document customer account issues and resolutions for future reference.
  • Maintain and update technical documentation, including user manuals and FAQs.

Endpoint Device Management

  • Hardware and Software Management :
  • Set up and configure new laptops, workstations, thin clients, and other endpoint devices.
  • Install peripherals such as printers and scanners.
  • Download and install standard functional drivers for endpoint devices.
  • System Updates and Maintenance :
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as system updates and software patches.
  • Implement required software patches and security fixes to ensure endpoint security.
  • Test and validate proper operation and configuration with appropriate security patches and fixes before restoring any device to the network.
  • Troubleshooting :
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software issues on laptops, workstations, and other endpoints.
  • Restart workstations remotely when required to resolve issues.
  • Identify and escalate high-priority issues to senior technicians or management.
  • User Support and Training :
  • Train customers in the operation of new systems and software.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshoot system issues efficiently.

AV & Collaboration Tools Management

  • AV Support :
  • Manage and troubleshoot AV equipment in conference rooms and auditoriums.
  • Assist with the operation and scheduling of AV systems such as EZ Room Scheduler and Webex Phones.
  • User Assistance :
  • Provide basic user support for AV systems and collaboration tools.
  • Document issues related to AV tools and provided resolutions.

Backup & Recovery

  • Backup Management :
  • Monitor and verify backups using solutions like Avamar Backup Solution.
  • Perform routine data recovery tasks under supervision.
  • Incident Reporting :
  • Immediately notify NDRC and their operational chain when incidents or intrusions are detected.

General Responsibilities:

  • Documentation and Reporting :
  • Document customer issues, resolutions, and changes made to systems.
  • Maintain and update technical documentation, FAQs, and user manuals.
  • Security and Compliance :
  • Implement and validate software patches, ensuring compliance with cybersecurity standards.
  • Test new technologies for security and functionality before implementation.
  • Collaboration :
  • Collaborate with senior system administrators to resolve complex issues.
  • Participate in team meetings to discuss system improvements and user feedback.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Must be United States citizen and possess a final Top Secret (TS) security clearance with eligibility for Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI).
  • 2-5 years of experience in system administration or a related IT field.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to effectively work independently and function in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and work calmly under pressure.
  • Must be certified at the IAT II level or higher per DoD 8570.01-M.
  • Demonstrated experience in system administration and cybersecurity.
  • Strong knowledge of DoD security policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with various cybersecurity and IT personnel.
  • Advanced experience with endpoint management tools and backup solutions.
  • Excellent problem-solving and incident response skills.
  • Preferred knowledge in Red Hat Enterprise Linux Operating System, Windows Operating System, and virtualization maintenance to include type-1 hypervisor deployment and administration.

  • Linux Administration: Advanced working knowledge in the administration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) Operating System.
  • Linux Scripting & Automation: Proficiency in Bash scripting and other scripting languages (e.g., Python) for automating routine tasks, system monitoring, log analysis, and configuration management in a Linux environment.
  • Virtualization: Hands-on experience with virtualization maintenance in a mixed environment, including the deployment and basic administration of Type-1 hypervisors (e.g., VMware ESXi) often used to host Linux servers.

Security & Compliance Integration

  • Linux Security Hardening: Practical experience implementing specific DoD Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and other hardening guides on Linux endpoints and servers to ensure compliance.
  • Patch Management: Experience with enterprise-level patch management tools and methods specifically for RHEL and other Linux distributions.

General IT System Depth
